Awright WYNU!

Gotta mention this, too. Props to Gregg Rivers on this one.

I'm not sure what time it was yesterday PM...but Gregg was on the air.
Was letting the Ipod rest in the Jeep when...
I heard two things that I thought were great!
Again...since I never hesitate to bring up something "not-so-great" I might hear... I feel it's fair to point out the good stuff.

Thing One:

I heard "Lovin' Touchin' , Squeezin'" by Journey- in its ORIGINAL form WITH "City Of The Angels". Now, maybe they do that all the time, but this was the first time I heard it. That's the way that song(s) should be heard, and I enjoyed it!

Thing Two:

Apparently there is a feature called "Deep Cut" (although NOT that "Deep")...Where I suppose they're going to play and old album cut we've forgotten or at least haven't heard in a while. (Done to appease those that wish for really truly classic rock that unfortunately is mostly impossible to format these days. Gotta stay with a coupla hundred rock "classics"))
Anyway...the song was "The Cowboy Song" by Thin Lizzie!
Awesome...AND I haven't heard it in years.

So...although I still appreciate the irony of the "Shut Up and Rock" show...Kudos on what was at least a shining moment on a Monday afternoon.

Thanks meep. I'm just getting started and I expect to see an email from you soon with some suggestions on both the Deep Cut AND the Four O'clock Four Play!
On a side note, Dude I REALLY try to keep my talk breaks to 60 seconds! Time me will ya? When the bed runs out, I bail and the beds are 60! LOL ;D

Ha!
Well, I don't get to listen regularly enough to time you! Maybe it's just because I'm from the school of plan what you're gonna say...say it and shut up.
At Froggy 94 in Memphis, that was the thing. No break over 20 seconds or so (and 1 topic per break). Station element between everything. Never say name or calls going INTO the breaks, and jingle or station drop OUT of each break into music.

I have worked with many who get "wordy", I've since come to call it the "Dewberry" syndrome.
Ask Timmy about that. He's long been a friend of mine, but back in the day... he tended to get "wordy"

(As maybe did MPGR back in the Selmer or Savannah days when I caught a little FM as I traveld through town peddling my wares) ;D

What do I know...I'm just an old "Has Been."

I agree that you don't need to go off on tangents, but if it's a well planned-segment and it's interesting for the listener, then I have no problem with going 45 seconds or a little longer for a break. If I want to hear music, I can listen to my iPod...give me something between the music that's interesting and, if possible, localized.

Perhaps radio formatics are a lost art.

I actually wish WYNU would take things a step farther. I love the morning buzz cut where they play a hair band (though there are way too many ballads) and I love the Deep Cut. I wish the station would dedicate thirty minutes each day to hair bands (five or six songs) and perhaps every Friday or Saturday half an hour of deep cuts.

So meep, what about talk radio... kidding....

I agree with Gregg.. but that's probably because I was trained by him. anyway... I do the same.. If it can't be said in a minute, it probably shouldn't be said.

I also agree with the Station name and calls not being said before a break, but always before music...

I learned that from another trainer I had, at about the same time as Gregg.

Anyway... back on topic... I always love a good deep cut... keep them coming.... it's about the only way Classic rock "newbs" like myself hear the non "classic" cuts.

I must give Greg a thumbs up. I got a chance to hear him yesterday. Not only was he upbeat and energetic, he plugged the "Deep Cut" segment...which is a great idea.

I didn't get to hear the "Deep Cut" of the day yesterday, but I did hear "Seeing Things" by the Black Crowes last week.

I'll give credit where it's due..."The Shut Up and Rock Show" sounded good yesterday.

While we're at it, how about the return of "Club Led"

although I'm probably the only one that wants to hear three Led Zep songs in a row.

Keep up the good work Gregg.

Thumbs up on the UFO yesterday. It appears the suggestions paid off...great setup to the song too.

I love UFO! Any chance the station would pick up Rockline?
