Axel's last song on 99.7FM

He said we will be hearing him soon. Doug Harding's final song will be before 5am. He is not allowed to speak after 5am.

Sounds like that might have gotten cranked back. Judging by Yes.com, they haven't run a break since midnight. I've been listening off and on for the last hour, and haven't heard anything from Doug. It sounds like they're on song/drop autopilot. (The drops all say "99x.com".)

I'm still going with my original prediction that the last song will be something out of current rotation as if nothing were happening. (Unless The Bert Show decides to do something special, but I seriously doubt that.)

and listening to him reminded me of how radio is indeed a part of many of our lives. We grow up listening to these stations. I remember when 99X signed on, I grew up with it. I am 32 years old. Doug, you and all your colleagues ran a true class act. Thanks for taking time to chat with me for a minute this morning. I meant what I said, you guys created something that will live on in the hearts of many of us who let it into our lives. 99-X grew on me. You were there through some really empty times in my life. The music played on and encouraged me to go on. Yeah, radio is indeed that powerful. My high school years weren't the best times in my life- and radio made alot of those times bearable. My best wishes to everyone, Sean, Leslie all you folks are a true class act that cannot be duplicated. I wish you all the best in your careers and future.

Agreed. Doug did a wonderful job, and I honestly couldn't have wished for anyone else to do it. Afterall, we all were (at some point) 99x.

This really is sad. It will only get worse when Bert signs on in 20 minutes.

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Doug went into break and Thanked Everyone
He then played U2-One
Last 30 mins of 99x on 99.7
REM-Radio Song
STP-Dead and Bloated
Nirvana-All Apologies
Soundgarden - Fell on black days
Pearl Jam - Black
Jeff Buckley - Last goodbye
Final Song:
Green Day - Good Riddance (Time of your life)
:'(
Silence - Dead Air - switch to Q100

Goodbye 99x.

As they transitioned into Q100 after going silent a few seconds, they jumped into the middle of "Clumsy" by Fergie. I wonder if that was by design or coincidence (the middle of a song named Clumsy).

Fate has a way of doing the amazing, huh?

I left work at 7pm last night so I JUST MISSED hearing Axel's final moment. Bummer that I missed it.

Doug just did his final break at 4:50am... he did such an awesome job. I am about ready to cry.

Just heard this. Awesome job all the way around.

Against better judgment, here's Doug's last break (right-click, save-as, please). Sorry about the WMA - that was the easiest way for me to capture it (and I was getting cynical enough that I didn't expect an official ending). If there's demand, I'll see if I can convert it to MP3 when I get home tonight.

Note: please don't repost that link elsewhere. If you want to re-host the file somewhere, that's fine. (I'm not expecting too much in the way of downloads, but if it gets crazy, I'm going to pull it down.)

I recorded the format flip and the first few minutes of Q100 at its new home. If anyone wants a copy, let me know, and I'll post a link here.

Gee, how trite & predictable to play a song from one of the innovators of "nu rock", one of the genres that helped destroy alternative rock. It would have made more sense to play the very first song spun on 99x than that one!
