B92.9

Well tomorrow is 12/26/2005. Is "it" supposed to happen tomorrow at 92.9 WLTJ? Is WLTJ supposed to officially change to WBZB tomorrow?
______________

Tune into the station at midnight to see if anything happens.

It's 11:35pm Christmas night and I'm sure of only two things:

1) Tomorrow AM, the sun will rise in the East.
2) After midnight, after 7:20a, after January 1st, the music coming over the airwaves on 92.9 will be the same as it was before the Christmas music.

They did the right thing on 96.9...maybe they are scared to change too much, who knows. It's a shame. They should do SOMETHING.

It's now 12:03 a.m. and they have announced "92.9 WLTJ" numerous times. I dunno, whatever...
______________

have they used the slogan "today's hits and yesterdays favorites", because i was listening just now around midnight, and they just said 92.9 WLTJ, no mention of lite rock

Yeah, they had said something like that, but as of 12:17 a.m. they just said, "Lite Rock 92.9".

Yeah, I guess when RadioEngnr, who works for Steel City Media, said they weren't going to change, he knew what he was talking about.

He must of, I guess the calls are intended for 96.9?

The plant called it, boys! But seriously...Why change???

** They've got a firm grasp of #8, W25-54.
** There's another station in town that is the exact same format and it has DOUBLE THE SHARE!

Here is an exchange of two posts, including RadioEngnr's reply to my post with a quote from me:

From me:

From RadioEngnr:
Amen to that

End quoted material

It's from his post of 12/15/05 07:14 PM, which is now on the second page of threads and posts.

Make of it what you will.

Re: B92.9 - u gotta read this one...

The B92.9 Smoking gun...or a technicalily that mediabase is on as well...

."more incriminating then the new "102-7 XYV" mic flags on the floor in the engineering room at the infinity Baltimore studios...on the day before the format flip of urban V103 to top 40...."

Don't believe? Ok... JJ knows radio...so here goes..

everybody type in www.yes.com

ok good!

now in the upper left put in your 92.9's "now positioned as of 12/26/05" Today's Hits and Yesterday's favorites...favorite call letters...

WLTJ (remember the tv spot, the cartoon about the window cleaner with the wltj in paint-script...)

WELL...

put those into the call letter window at the top left of the yes.com screen....

WAIT??? THEY DON'T WORK? it worked a week ago!

you might be quickly thinking that because they are a soft adult contemporary they might not be monitored by mediabase... nice guess but no. It works for WSHH, WAMO, and the new rock fav WRKZ...(yes...it is..ask around town...) all their call letters work!

now try WBZB and turn on or stream the station live to verify this theory...and u tell me...

Let's reflect on some format flips and their occurence around this quarter...remember when 104.7 went talk, for a couple of days before (Jan the station voice changed (but the music stayed the same - like in this scenario) and the station only aired the call letters until BAM...FM NEWS Talk....

In Dec 1992 (13 years ago, the 31st of Dec to be exact) staffers of then (the great Mix Jamz 100.7 (wmxp) with Jay Stevens in Mornings, Jammin John Anthony in PM Drive and yeidy-yiedy DC "guess what's down my pants" Taylor at night. in Millvale High atop the lincoln lunchcounter all gathered round a mic to say goodbye and a silent hello to K-Garth (thank you then EZ Communications for that one..note my sarcasm)...

a month later WAMO aired drops..sayin' (somethin line...mix jamz had to go...now let's spank the B in '93..hot 106 JAMZ (imaging by Pat Garrett). WAMO quickly picked up where Mix Jamz left of (literally... picking up the 'Jamz' monkier so no other station in the market could use it ... until jettisoning it in 2004 to put the 106-7 frequeny on the forefront of the call letter positoning..(in an effort to help you the consumer under stand that 106-7 was for tha hip hop and 107-1 was for where you should be now if you liked what the Beat played...(and the Tom Joyner show too - first time on FM in Western PA...woo hoo...no sky show still? damn!). Although in a period in 1995 HOt 106 didn't say jamz until the hot boys night show came on at 7pm.

(Bad Boys (version 1)alum dj boogie still does PM drive at the station )

remember...this is just a THeory....

unless...

yes.. naaaaaah!

I know this sounds cheesy of me to ask, but what is your flat out point of that post. I mean, I understand what you posted, but what point are you trying to make? They still may change, or what? P.S. As of 11:45 a.m. on YES.com they have Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" played at 11:45 did they always used to play music like that? Honest, I don't know, I never listened to LTJ before, always stuck with KISS.

Anyone else see a message WLTJ sent by playing Kim Wilde's You Keep Me Hanging On as one of the first few songs after the christmas tunes were dropped? My bet is still on for Jan 1st, if at all. Please anything is better than KISS. Honestly, what CHR station is still playing Jagged Edge's Let's Get Married? C'mon Steel City, Renda, Forever/Keymarket, sheesh even 620 or 770 AM for chrissake - someone PUH-LEASE bring back CHR to Pittsburgh.

If you look at their web site you will see that it looks like they are tied into a Saturday Night Fever New Year's gig in the Burgh. Cheesy disco and CHR would go together like oil and water. I suspect there is a lot of money riding on that deal with the club owner, so they would be smart to hold off to make a switch until after that is over and the $$$ has been collected for the event.

I think everyone was overly ambitious when they predicted an automatic switch at Midnight December 26th. I would venture a guess to say that the wheels are quietly turning and you will see a change sometime after the new year once everything is in place. If not, 92.9...then SOMEONE will do it. Kiss is no CHR and programmers know that. There is a big old hole in the Burgh. Someone is bound to come along and fill it quickly.

Do you really think so? Look at Harrisburg. Clear Channel comes in and sets up a rhythmic Kiss clone. Heritage CHR Wink 104 battles, but gives in and changes formats to Hot AC. Now we're left with just Kiss, which is 90% rap and a Hot AC. Harrisburg was ALWAYS a Top 40 town, but we've been left without a Mainstream CHR for 5 years now. It's not going to happen in Pittsburgh either. Now just isn't the time for the format.

Perhaps if a Program Director got away from simply selecting an officially sanctioned and named format from the list of approved, official formats and simply found out what kind of music the people in his target demographic in his particular market wanted to hear and played it, he might have more success.

What would you call a format that consists of just the songs that local listeners within the target demographic happen to like?

Successful!

Thing is, both Kiss and Wink are fairly successful the way they are. Wink doesn't get the huge 10 share numbers they used to because the CHR pie is split, but they probably make just as much money now as a Hot AC then they did as a CHR.

And that's the answer. There's just not much music out there anymore, relatively speaking.

All the hip-hop sounds the same, all the rock sounds the same. It's tough to make an interesting sttaion out of what there is to work with.
______________
