B92 flips the switch to 92.5 THE BOX "IS HIP HOP"

Apex does alot of voicetracking. Their sister station Star 99.7 is voicetracked or syndicated during every daypart except PM Drive and a couple features on the weekends. I wouldn't expect much difference from The Box. Even though I still think Box is going to whip Z's butt.

So True!!! I know George is PD/Afternoons in Macon so i don't think holding nights in Chucktown is paying more, but da Chuck is a bigger market. The downfall of voicetracking is when you have callers calling to request and noboday answers or when automation screws up!

Well there is no more Jay Tek on THE BOX, I wonder what happened and what Michael Tee has planned for the station??? They should have gotten rid of Sean Mack too and just rebuilt their whole staff. I hope they figure out something soon, but I think Jay Tek had big plans for the station, guess we'll neva find out.

Man, Jay Tek was going to take THE BOX to #1, trust me. You know how the bizz is when people try to over your shine and take all the credit for themselves sometimes. Well, Jay is back here in ATL so hopefully I can check him out here. Funny, I read a job post encouraging Citadel employees to apply for job opennings at THE BOX. Does Z93 really have that much great talent? Hmmmmm, I hope Mike finds somebody with skills because this is strike #1 already.

I hate to say it but I think im gonna have to give up on THE BOX cause they haven't really impressed me music wise. They keep playing the same songz over n over and aren't really breaking any new hip-hop that Z93 isn't playing. Correct me if i'm wrong but they just are living up to the expectations that everyone thought they would be living up to. I know they lost Jay Tek but it seems like their MD (Sean Mack) just doesn't know how to break new hip-hop. Their charts have been the same for the last 2-3 weeks. I just hope they can change my mind ??? cauze I expected a little bit more for a new hip-hop station. JMHO

I haven't given up on them, but they are playing the same songs over and over. The mixshows haven't been impressive (their premier weekend it was on point) sounds pre-recorded and some mixes have repeated. I don't think Thunderkats were on this past weekend. For now i'm still listening online to CBS's HOT 93.7 for their Saturday mixshow its live and it goes for like 7 hours.

Where is In the Den with Big Tigger, 106 & Park Countdown and 'The God' their in the program schedule but haven't been on???

When I was down there a couple of weeks ago the mixshows did sound recorded. When Jay Tek started mixing at 5pm, it sounded live. IDK whats gonna happen to The Box, but they are still new so they haven't lost the buzz just yet. It'll be interesting to see who they bring on board for PD, nights and afternoons. Interesting jocks are on the radio telling callers to call in, but they are actually at a club mixing not even on the radio. MAJOR voicetracking.

I hate to say this, but I didn't really expect much anyways. I didn't really see how a full 100kw station would play only a niche format as hip-hop. The repitition and playlist is just the same as Z93 or any other "Hip-Hop and R&B" station. Honestly, if they were smart, they would have gone local in the morning. What needs to happen is mixing in more golden era and late 90's-early 2000's hip-hop. Other than that, this station is just a carbon copy of Urban Radio USA.

Yea I definitely agree about them needing to mix more late 90's-early 2000's hip-hop, that would definitely give the station a better hip-hop feel instead of just playing currents and re-currents. But in order for them to remain urban mainstream they have to play some R&B, they're still a young station, but they do need to boost up their image on the hip-hop to beat out "Z" because playing the same songs as your rival station and with THE BOX being as new as they are, they will just keep sounding like "Z", hopefully somebody at THE BOX will think outside of "THE BOX" and really make it into the Hip-Hop station that it could be.

Well look like Da Chuck will have a annual summer concert afterall. Its suppose to be going down July 23rd and they calling it SUMMER SPLASH 2010!!. Its on the website and look like it might be a pretty good line up cause they have the legends 8Ball & MJG in the line up and they have Juvenile in there as well whom happens to have some of the biggest hits from the south. There are others to as well i might get my tickets just to see 8Ball & MJG I play their CDs daily. So this could definitely be a good look for THE BOX, now if we can work on their playlist and their schedule then we will be in biznessss :D

It's about time!!! This is a winner for 92.5 as long as the tickets are priced right. Now they need to get the jocks in place and rock out. I hope Chucktown doen't mess this one up because it's rare for North Charleston Coliseum to hold Urban events. Heard Patti Labelle is also coming to town for Moja Fest, but don't know if Apex will brag on this before Citadel.

THE BOX takes another loss. The Summer Splash that they were supposed to have this month has been cancelled and they are giving ticket refunds back. Man this station seems like it is falling apart before it gets itself together, I hope this doesn't mean that THE BOX can't live up to what it was supposed to be, because they have alot of potential, but they just might not have the right people running it, but this is not a good look for them. hope they can recover :-\

You gotta be kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't wanna sound like a bummer, but Apex should of kept the battle on with B92 competing with 95SX. Top 40 is at an all time high right now with hip-hop, dance, R&B, and etc. There isn't much to offer in JUST hip-hop right now and I'm surprised they are wasting a huge signal with hip-hop. I'm not saying I dislike the format in general, because there are some killer artists out there (Eminem, T.I., Kid Cudi, Lil Wayne) but those artists also crossover to the mainstream. If The Box opens up their playlist a little, and adds some local/regional stuff, and some oh wow, old school tracks, it would set them apart from the rest. Look at what happened in Myrtle Beach. (Although the hip hop segued back to 98.5 and left them without an Urban AC) All this is just my opinion, and I am open to full criticism ;D

Charleston is a huge Urban market, but if it isn't done right it becomes a big FAIL. When B92 first launched, they should've went RHYTHMIC taking 2 slices out of Citadel's cake. We've been down this road before with Clear Channel. Remember 94.3 THE BEAT was Rhythmic then flipped to POWER 94.3 Urban. With that being said 95SX and Z93 has always stood ground against competition. THE BOX still has a chance if they get a great experienced PD and a sales staff that can sell Urban.

You are right Shawty. I really liked Hot 98.9 when they were on the air. But Z is a beast. If you do a half a$$ job with competing against them, you are gonna fail. Hopefully, The Box WILL improve! But, with this latest black eye, it's making them look weak.

Yea they are looking very weak. I hate to say but Z93 has stepped their game up a bit, they've been breaking more new Hip-Hop than THE BOX and they are even playing more local artists. I just get more and more disappointed when I listen to THE BOX and look at their playlist its the same 15 songs over and over with no new songs, no throwback classics etc.....I think THE BOX lost it when they got rid of Jay Tek. They have no mixshows besides on the weekend, they really aren't living up to what they said they were gonna do and in a market like Charleston if you a new station and you can't stand up to a legend and then you won't last long. I just hope they know that they are messing up and try they best to fix it or they will just be another memory in urban radio Charleston and then we will be stuck with just Z93 again. Someone let me know when THE BOX get their s#!% together :-X, until then im just sticking with my ipod and cd player. Good luck BOX!!!!

Jay Tek had big plans for 92.5

Hmmmmm, DuDu Crew and Divine Martino in the building??? If so bout time! Former HOT 98.9 folks!

Nice. Its funny that you should mention that because I was just up at the station talking to someone for my class and she said that THE BOX is just getting started which prolly means that we haven't seen the best of THE BOX just yet. I hope this won't be another let down but im pretty sure that the DuDu Crew and Divine Martino will be apart of THE BOX and Ive been hearing Kelly Blaze on air too. So it seems like they are getting their stuff together....
