The MD before Erik Bradley was Todd Cavanah, who is the PD now.
In terms of WGCI, if you remember (I don't know how old you are) GCI used to be one of the big dance mix stations till about 1989.
They then cut the hours of their dance/house mixes between 1989 and 1991. I guess they figured it was time was hip-hop to have more of an outlet in Chicago.
Then in late 1991, Elroy Smith took over as PD of WGCI and virtually got rid of most the House Mixes on the station with the exception of one hour. I think the only reason why he was even rotating as much House Music as he was during the day was because the listeners were requesting it because of B96. Elroy was never a big supporter of House Music, for one reason or another. I think he is one of those programmers than doesn't like to crossover very often. I have heard that they have had to explain to Elroy how big House Music was on GCI during the 80's. I really don't think Elroy cared, as long as he was still getting overall ratings for the station.
When Elroy finally caved in and gave five hours back to House Music again, it was a great thing. CLUB 1075 was the number dance show in its time slot (without the station running promos for it). I think that was done on purpose by Elroy so the show wouldn't do well. So, all in all, the show was canceled (even though it was doing very well. As long as Elroy is there, there probably won't be a SERIOUS house show on GCI unless he caves into pressure.
Q-101, I think they cancelled "Sonic Boom" because they got a new PD, once again, A PD making bad decisions for the market but doesn't care. I want to say "Sonic Boom" was probably doing better than the rest of the station overall.
