B98.5 board mishap brings Bob and Tom back to Atlanta

At Midnight last night, the satellite signal carrying the Delilah should have been taken off, and the computer carrying B98.5's normal programming should have taken over.

Last night, only one of those two things happened. The computer did kick in with the station's normal AC playlist. But the satellite did not go down. What I heard was Bob and Tom over Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone". Both the music and the satellite were at full levels, which made for an exiting mix (although the voices of Bob and Tom ruined a perfectly good song).

The Bob and Tom show must be carried on the same satellite transponder that Delilah is on. Also, B98.5 must be running Delilah (at least the later hours) fully automated, as this would not have happened if someone was at the board monitoring things.

I have heard this a couple of times earlier where the satellite did no go down on time, and B98.5's local computer mixed in with whatever was on the satellite.

Which brings me to the next topic. Larry "Nighttrain" Lane is B98.5's overnight DJ (and has held that slot, I believe since about 1987). Over the past few weeks, I have only heard him about once or twice a week. Sometimes, he is there at midnight, others about 1 AM, and mostly not at all. His bio is still up, and I hear him doing recorded PSA's during the overnight timeslot (I belive Mr. Lane is B98.5's Community Affairs Coordinator). His bio is still up on the B98.5 website, so he has not been fired. I wonder what is up with him not being there.

Yeah, I did hear something strange happening during the 12:00 A.M. to 12:05 A.M. time slot today after listening to Delilah. I was not sure what it was, but it sounded like a talk show simultaneously playing along with Kelly Clarkson. I guess we have to find out if this will happen again, but I don't see B98.5 dropping Delilah soon. If they did, most likely they would have to wait until S&V comes in and then make the changes.

I remember this happening about 6 months ago...odd thing was it was Delilah over the normal playlist.

:-D q

I do not know B95's control room or satellite configuration (having never worked in Atlanta) But when I was at Citidel Southwest (KKOB) 3 of the stations in the cluster refused to accept tones from the satellite into the Scott System to kick off programming. We would have to go in and MANUALLY cue up the computer and pot down the satellite. So the system could do the stored portion of the daypart.

Now... usually this event would create dead air and set off an alarm. Also we monitored all the stations in the cluster every 20 mins. from the one fully live control room at KKOB.
