Bad press for WJFX Hot 107.9 Fort Wayne??

WANE-TV is running a story that a woman is the victim of a prank aired on 107.9. She says HOT 107.9 is partly to blame for the black eye her boyfriend gave her after she found a strange number on his cellphone. When she called it back she was apparently drawn into a gag put on by the jock on the air (WANE's story right now didn't say who was on the air at the time.)
I'm wondering if 107.9 is legally on the hook for this one. I'm thinking there's other stations that air a disclaimer that says (to some degree) "calls to this station may be recorded for on air use." In my mind once they do that there's nothing that can be done against the station, but if they DID NOT then somebody's going to (potentially) be cutting one hefty check.

This is all I know about it right now. I think there's going to be more "AT ELEVEN." As we all know.

anything to get her face on the air I suppose...
it's going to be interesting if management of 107.9 would EVER admit that it was anything more than a stunt but if tapes exist it's still a she says/they say case. She may never get anything more than a "sorry we were idiots" apology...

That's worthy of being the top story of the newscast?

I'm sorry that the woman got hurt, but this is a really dumb story. This is what you get for living that type of lifestyle. Where you check up on your boyfriend by looking through his cell phone. And the guy can't be that great if she can't trust him.

Dumb, dumb, dumb...

And aren't we over the radio prank calls thing, yet? I guess they are still very popular. ugh.

Apparently this was a redneck barbeque. She may not be the sharpest tool or her loving boyfriend. Would like to see the expression when he found all his stuff on the lawn.

Forget the whole story and how she was harmed by the prank.

The reason not to renew their license. They didn't tell her she was on the air, even if she knew she was calling a radio station. A license has been yanked for as much as this.

I hope it happens, Chief.
This station is DUMB.
The "brainless youth" find it "like, AWESOME!"
Pull the effin' plug please and let someone use it right, or shutter that frequency; there's enough useless radio in Fort Wayne as it is.

I understand with Casey Anthony the lack of interest in helping Poor White , well, anyway, they missed the part that is relevant. I watched the video and all my friends agreed she is a hottie......

NOT.

I understand she's looking though.

Even if she called a radio station they needed to tell her they were putting her on the air. Recording her is okay but rebroadcast of the event is a Federal issue. Forget all the low level crap, here's her ticket to a settlement with the station.

LMBO You people are funny. This is all Hot's fault? PLEASE. Grab a clue people. Most radio stations - Hot included, at least when I was up there - run disclaimers at least once a day that states their basic contest rules and also that all phone calls to the radio station lines may be recorded and may also be used on the air at any time. Besides, anyone with common sense would know that calling a radio station may mean they're going to be on the air. She had no reasonable expectation that her call would not be aired. It is, after all, a radio station. It is NOT the radio station's fault that her lowlife significant other made a choice to harm her.

You need help, Juan. Just because your type of programming isn't on the air doesn't mean it's crap. You may find Pandora, Spotify or Sirius/XM more to your liking.

I need help??? Nope sorry I'm content. I have enough on my iPod to keep me happy. I just think that Hot 107.9 needs to grow up. Listeners don't "hear" those disclaimers "intentionally" and they go nuts when stuff happens...and then WANE gets word and BAM. It's top story at 5,6, and 11. Hype trumps merit. B.S. is all it is.

I need help??? Seriously. I'm cool. Ask my real self. JohnnyC. sez J.B. is fine.

Grow up? I guess you'd have them play smooth jazz or be yet another AC station. CHR is supposed to be a fun format and I have no doubt that that's what they were trying to do. It's not always going to be the sophisticated humor you may be looking for, Juan.

The fact that the disclaimers run is enough. Hot is more than covered. I'm sorry she got beaten but instead of blaming the radio station she needs to blame her piece of crap boyfriend or whatever he is and reevaluate her life choices.

Hey guess what, it doesn't matter to me anymore.
WJFX can go do what they want.
I just wanted to jump a thread on here, and I'm sorry I did.
So SCREW IT. I'm DONE. Good day.

Now for an all Canadian station...All RUSH (the band, eh) ALL THE TIME!!! Neil Young you're the ambassador of grunge, you shall hold court on Saturday nights... ;D

dont worry about it juan, i met jo-nathan when he was here in fort wayne.....there is a reason he is not in radio anymore! maybe because he had no clue about radio.

I would be careful with that interpretation, it could cost your station a few thousand $$:
