Wow, there's a name I haven't heard in awhile. Great guy. Where has he been?

He's been in the nut house and will probably do nothing more than help the "ship sink" more than it is now. That station will continue to fail as long as that Pfuntner guy keeps micro-managing the place to death. If he sticks with the way REAL radio stations run then he'd let the people he hires do what they're supposed to do and just do sales because he doesn't know how to do anything else.

really??? interesting ! thanks to Radknowski for the radio dissertation, sound like he knows it all ! lol...however he somewhat admits he's not from little Elmira. Not enough Urban population to support his theory although I like it. My advice to him, polish up your resume and tape cause this market ain't worth savin' ! :lol

I've heard that the ratings for the urban shows on the weekends were out of sight. Nobody could touch those shows. So you can't say urban music doesn't work in Elmira. Gary Knight rseemed to be really sharp on making the music work for Elmira.

maybe if it's day parted...elmira could never support an 24/7 urban station...

I know a couple of people over there, and it is a bad situation.  Doug Guyer is joining for mornings, and the new guy Jonathan will be taking afternoons.  The PD, Mike Strobel, is doing all he can, but is overwhelmed with responsibilites...

And if Allison's going to Rochester, then I'm taking over the Howard Stern show!  Impossible
best pack your bags for the Howard Stern show...heard a commercial in rochester yesterday and allisons voice was on it! she sounds great and she's HOT!

I listen to 94Rock over any other station in this area, WINK is to overproduced and impersonal when it comes to TOP-40 Radio. 94 Rock is hometown, down to earth and established; all stations go thru a period in which some things need to change to move towards the future. Truth is when it comes down to it everyone does the same thing in their car...When WiNK is playing a good song, people listen if they play a bad one they turn it to 94ROCK and Vise Versa. And lil radio girl I have heard you on...niiiiiiiighty four rock! I think I would rather listen to Fran Drescher for 5 hours. As Simon Cowel Says "Your absolutely Horrible"

Your mistaken. She has NOT done any work for any station in Rochester...

Beg to differ. Elmira-Corning is a fine place to live if you have a gig that pays the bills, and it's a good place to learn the craft and polish your skills. Look at John Kobylt and Ken Champeau: From Elmira to Trenton-Philly to LA and KFI.

Corning is an especially sweet little town. Seen it from a number of vantage points, Market Street, Walnut Street, Keegan Road and the entire valley looks damn fine coming down Prospect Hill Road on a Spring morning.

Still think Wink runs too much urban during the week. Like I said, lean CHR and let it rip at night and on weekends.

Agree with you ...
If you can land a gig that pays the bills ... and you can stand the poor management of stations in the market, it is a fine place.

WINK lost sight of what they should do with their signal a few years back, and they are slowly regaining it. To have ran up against a heritage CHR station, cost them their ratings early on. They are slowly regaining their status. However, gaining all the teens does not a station make. You need momma and daddy too to make $$$.

What the market needs again, is a leader. No one is doing that right now.

Hmmmmm seems I struck a nerve, possible old boyfriends or jealous co workers ? lol everyones entitled to their opinions and i think she's good!!moving on/ like to get Radknowski's opinion on satelites, he seems to know the most about radio, any idea why smaller markets don't just keep a morning show lve then go to programming/ wouldn't it make sense to save money this way since they don't really pay all that much anyhow?

I am looking to possibly apply for an opening advertised with the station in mention here. Do you guys commenting currently work with this group or speaking hear say about it? Just want to make sure no mistakes are made.

I like Allison and me and my friends will miss her. Sounds like personal stuff going on here coming from guys who have problems with women. "MATT from Big Flats"..if you remember correctly Simon Cowell is the most hated personality on the show, he may get ratings but he's rude and ignorant and he has trouble with women, especially Paula who many women love ! Perhaps you need Anger management. Good luck .

.............................you also contradict yourself, if you don't like the afternoon girl why do you listen??? Perhaps Boces could help you too.

well said gidget! but not all of us dislike women on tv or radio. I like all our females on there and i really miss Chris faber, anyone remember that name? and salesgirl, did sales there a while back, keep running, terrible, aweful place to work for.

The station always gives away alot of stuff, any takers on why it's so bad there? Pay,no insurance? Always thought it was top in the market.

What ever happened to Chris Faber! Now there was one of the nicest people ever! I remember a remote at Sparkle of Xmas in Corning, where she was next to us, and we had a blast!

Working for any station of Pem"broke" Pines is the worst mistake that anyone can make. Sure it's all fun and games the first few days when everyone is friendly and welcoming, but forget that. I spent several wasted years of my life working for that company that treats their stations like high school radio stations and their employees like crap. Traffic does bare minimum when it comes to doing anything...oh and it's always YOUR fault when something goes terribly wrong. Aside from the long, hard work that people put in, it's a company full of backstabbers and cruel people. The owner and his assistant are by far the shadiest people I've ever met. Bounced checks and insults are the employee's prize for working there. Almost everybody in programming gets a long with each other and the sales staff. But please do let clients and the traffic director tell you how to program the station. It's reflective on how sound the station is and believe me that's not a compliment. Is anybody even programming that station, or is it still being run like a Friday-Free-For-All where everyone does as the please? What a joke.

That stinks! I'm from Horseheads and I'm visiting from NYC for 2 weeks. Whatever happened to all the people I used to listen to? I mean yeah Mike Stroble and DJ Sammy are there but neither one of them really sounds like they're having fun anymore. Isn't that Funter (I think I'm spelling that wrong) guy like 60? And he's in charge of the RADIO side?! If that's truly the case then WINK won't even have competition when it comes to top 40 stations. Hometown don't mean squat if you can't even let the RADIO people run what they're supposed to! Good for Brian and Gary getting the heck outta there while they still had some dignity left and Allison....well let's just say she was never even good enough to be called "mediocre" and that's sad for a small market like this. On the flipside, as much as WINK is a better station with a larger market sound, not a single one of those overhyped monkeys they call airstaff will ever amount to anything. Why do you think they all came from bigger markets to Elmira? That place is a haven for white trash and they prove it everyday.

Kinda harsh, dontchya think? Yeesh!

Look. Everybody wants to work, everybody needs to pay the rent. Not everybody is Major Market Matt. Give the people a break. In every market, there's "good" and "not-so-good."

Believe me, I've heard LA, NYC, Miami, Chicago, Cleveland, Boston, Philly and Buffalo. There are some B and C level players in those markets (including me) who at first listen, might not have made your starting rotation.

But if these men and women who have "made the team" are trying to do their best every time the mic goes on, give them the credit they deserve. Sure, if they're coasting and mailing it in, then maybe they deserve a rip.

But really, think about it. Maybe it's their first gig. Maybe it's their last gig and they're content working where they're at home with family and friends. Maybe there's stuff going on that you don't know about. I once was on the air reading a newscast when a steam pipe burst in the studio, scalding hot water going all over the place. Think I didn't double clutch when that puppy barked unexpectedly?

I'm from Buffalo (out of radio by choice now working for the family construction business.) It's a city that gets ripped for its economy, its weather, its fat-assed old people and God only knows what else. Y'know what? Buffalo is a great place to live. Perfect? Hell NO! (Some might emphasize the "hell" in that short, declarative entence.) It's not LA, NYC or Boston, but it's home and it's the place that hundreds of thousands have chosen to live their lives. Same with Elmira-Corning. To paint Elmira with a "white trash" paint brush is just plain wrong. These communities are facing tough times and doing their best to make it work one day at a time.

I can't count the number of times, especially in my formative years, that I've screwed up an intro, messed up a newscast, bungled a live read. Ever been called out on strikes "looking" at a fastball down the middle on a 3 and 2 count? I have.

I've also heard major market guys buckle on mic. It happens. The pros get up, dust themselves off and get back in the game and make it a point to do better the next time they get to the plate or open the mic. They're students of the game and the game is always changing. Hopefully, they have good coaches who point out their mistakes and tell them how to avoid them in the future.

We're all a work in progress.
