Didn't the Bakersfield newspaper have a quote from some GM in Bakersfield in the past few months saying that station (96-5) was only liked by 1 legged hunch-backed nuns (or something like that) and then he questioned why it was in the format saying it could never make in-roads? Who was that?

The GM's name is Steve Darnell at Buckley. Seriously doubt you'll see a "boy was I wrong" from him or any of the other KBKO bashers. Congrats to Lee Logan and his team. Also looks like CC should celebrate KRAB...now with Real Rock Real Gone, the Krankers were expected to go up...and they did. Nice job Danny!

Yeah, I think it was Steve Darnell too. I'm happy for them. They're battling Bucks empire with the utmost respect, and when one speaks country in Bako CA, that is the best, and smartest way to go, for everybody. God, I love Sammy! I know, I know, he's not local.

Without question KBKO had a good book. I don't know if I can be considered a KBKO basher however. The newspaper asked me for my opinion, and I gave it. I stand by my words. It is a tough fight going up against a heritage station like KUZZ. They have owned the market for a very long time. To use a boxing analogy, when you get into the ring with the champ, you have to knock the champ out to win...you can't win on points. They haven't done anything to knock out the champ. They're scoring some points, but KUZZ is still on top. I think that KBKO, along with my own stations has benefitted from favorable diary placement, an increase in female diaries and a significant decrease in male diaries in this Spring book. Keep in mind it is one book for KBKO, and it's taken three books to get where it is today. One book is only a snapshot in time. Time will tell whether my comments to the newspaper were wrong. If after 4 books, KBKO continues to post the kind of numbers or greater that they posted today, then certainly my comments would be considered off the mark. It takes consistency to determine whether you're successful or not, and from a corporate standpoint, it's never about numbers anyways, it's about profit. Turning numbers into profitable revenue is the real measure of success. It certainly has to feel good for the programming staff at KBKO to make some progress. Nothing worse than working your tail off and not see any positive results.

Always nice to hear a "nice job" from your boss huh, Danny. Hope Mr King (shemp, whatever he calls himself) gave you props in studio as well.
Too Bad it took REAL ROCK to leave before the KRANKERS could move up..Nobody mentioned PIRATE or any other AGM props. PIRATE looked good, KGFM went way UP and KISV as usual holding steady.Maybe no one from those props are on this board..any AGMers out there? CC's KDFO also did nicely Wonder how KLLY's mornings will do without Danny.

Okay...so yes...KRAB goes up with Real Rock gone. Given. They had BETTER go up. But kudos to KGFM? K-Lite goes away...they BETTER go up. In a passive format, sometimes growth comes slower.

As for Mr. Darnell...thanks for peaking in. I still think you owe an apology to the CC folks for the comments in the paper. Not much class ("one-legged hunchbacks"...nice.) Yes, one book does not make for a win...but tell me your sales staff wasn't out trumpeting the great first book of The Groove or KLLY after adding Jamie and Danny. I know for a fact that your sales staff was out selling the good news the first time you got a great book, and KBKO should be doing exactly the same. Fact is...KBKO has had a serious impact on KUZZ...They're down...way down in many dayparts, and it's their dominance isn't quite so obvious anymore.

And yes...in this world...we do celebrate one good book. In this stupid market, Arbitron may not be the best system, it's the only system. You celebrate when you can, and move on when its bad. Deal with it.

Based on your response, I'm not sure that you read and correctly interpreted my reply. I never said that KBKO didn't win in this book. There's a difference between winning in a book, and winning the battle. I indicated that they had a good book and that it must feel good to their staff to start seeing some positive results. KUZZ is still on top. As far as selling the good news of a ratings book...every sales staff worth anything should be out telling the story. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to guess that we sell our good news when we are fortunate to have it. I'm not really sure where the "Stupid Market", "Arbitron may not be the best system...", and "deal with it" have to do with anything that we're talking about. Those of us in the business all have to deal with it don't we?

I tell everyone "nice job" for the work they have done and continue to do (in the studio, in the streets and in the office). This staff works their rear ends off and it paid off for the team effort. So, yes, I always make sure to give props to my people. And I believe they know the how much I believe, trust and respect each one of them.

> Too Bad it took REAL ROCK to leave before the KRANKERS could

Actually, KRAB was moving up prior to this book. Look at the 12+ KRAB and FOX were right next to eachother in the Winter book.

BTW, this is my screen name, not Shemp. SteveKing, that is my name.

Operations Manager: Clear Channel Bakersfield
PD: KDFO-FM - 98.5 The Fox

Darnell, you don't owe anyone an apology especially CC. Give me a BREAK, It's RADIO..boo-hoo over hurt feelings. Although I think it's lame that general managers and Operations managers actually defend themselves on a board. You don't see Mel Owens/Evan Bridwell or Roger Fessler/Rogers Brandon spending their time here, worrying about what other programmers think. You guys are competing, you're supposed to knock on one another. Ever watched channel 17 KGET? Clear channel can't toot their own horn enough during promos. I feel sorry for the poeple who work there, they are paranoid of their management, as most of them are locals who were here before they took over.

I'm just wondering where all of you are getting your good drugs from... KBKO IS A JOKE! They got EXTREMELY lucky and had a spike... and the spike was in the 2's! While KUZZ STILL sits on top... BUCK IS LAUGHING AT YOU! Even before CC threw in the towel with Rhythmic it was at a 5... if they gave up on that... how much longer do you think it will be before they give up on KBKO?

Sad to see KKBB falling down too... but quite honestly from listening... you could see this one coming... it's very downtempo, and becomes more and more unfamiliar sounding on a daily basis. PLAY SOME HITS!

Other than that... all is right in B-Town... one more thing... KBDS... OUCH! Looks like it's back to spanish!

You have one hell of a chip on your shoulder. Looks to me like CC and Buckley fired you for a good reason. So what if people talk about their stations. That my good man is pride in your team. Sounds to me like they have the cajones to be themselves on this site. AS for the other names you seemed to drop, we don't know that they aren't on this board. they, like you and me, are afraid to use our names for fear of being seen as mean or, in your case, knowing who has a bad attitude.

As for fear, I know a few people who now work at CC and from what they tell me, they love working there. As for the TV side, they don't like radio, they are proud to tell radio they don't like them. I doubt is effects their day to day work at CC radio. Now if you want to make comments about how many people are from here, I would have this to say, listen to the stations that have 100% Bakersfield born and bred stations. Oh wait, there aren't any like that.

WOW, how bitter are you? i work for CC and love it. in fact i've worked for 3 other companies (including AGM) before going to CC and i'm not looking back. as i really don't come on this board too often i don't really know your background but either you got launched from CC or they wouldn't hire you or they killed your pet bunny... something... which, doesn't reflect on them... it reflects on YOU. yes, before i went to CC i went through the same brainwash as every other jock is given when it comes to CC, but when things got bad enough at AGM i was willing to even give CC a try.
so i work for a big ass company... i don't think for a second that i sold out (as i was told i was doing when i crossed over)
i think i made a decision that bettered MY life and MY career. i've been with CC for over 3 years now... i can't say that about any other company.
you need to get a hobby... start biking or perhaps join a local poker night. i don't think it's healthy for someone to obsess so much about just one thing.
cheers.

Bitter? Right. I've never worked for Clear Channel
I must say, I am surprised CC actually keeps you on the air Laura. You always sound so damn bored. Things got bad for you at AGM? That's surprising since it is very hard to get fired from there unless there is a format change, unlike your beloved company.
I know people reading this know I'm right, but they also know their managers feed off this board (which I said before is so lame) so they are probably afraid that their managers know their screen names because of their computer spyware and are afraid to get the ax

Also for the guy that says TV and radio hate eachother...you must not even live in Bakersfield, this is the most incestuous market you'll ever see. Channel 17 promos their radio stations constantly!KBAK is in bed with KERN and the Californian and KERO gets in on the action as much as they can as well. ================================================================================

I dont know why when a new station comes along. People think it should beat their compitition in the first, second, or third book. A station needs time to grow. KUZZ has because how long its been on and the only Country station that has had the power to stay on. Until now. I give Clear Channel props for even taking on a task as big as this. I belive that Bucks people better start putting their heads in the game. Because I belive KBKO has a chance. A darn good chance. They have a great on air staff. Now I am not saying this because I work for either company. Because I dont. I think we are going to see some great things coming from Clear Channel and KBKO. Like the other post said. GET OVER IT. Move on. Things will change.

see this is why, in the past, i haven't been on this board very much. the stoopid personal attacks.
yes, AGM did suck. i didn't get fired, i walked. honestly, it was partly my fault... i was promised alot of things that i didn't get in writing and, in the end, they didn't deliver on any of it. at CC i got things in writing. i could be working for entercom, infinity, CC or a small mom and pop and be ok with it as long as i've covered myself in a contract.
i'm not going to argue with you about my on air delivery, you'll think what you will. .. although it sounds like you listen often if i ALWAYS sound so damn bored.
i'll just point to my day part ratings (even before the collapse of real rock) and say good day to you :)
cheers

KUZZ will forever kick KBKO's corporate butt.I love how you are giving Clear Channel "props" for taking on KUZZ, CC is a monster compared to Owens broadcasting, it's not like they are some measly little company taking on big bad Buck. You're giving them a darn good chance? I too hope they stick around as I like a country variety, but a chance at good ratings against KUZZ..not gonna happen.
KBKO has a good air staff? Ken and Barbie (even though they are good people) couldn't even cut it against KGFM's Doug/Dean and Rachael during the soft rock run, you think they're gonna rise above Bakersfields' good ol boy' Steve Garbage-witz who this town drools over? Casey Mcbride is on every board in town and is every woman's buddy . The only good air talent KBKO has is the girl on after the morning show, I do enjoy her, which means she won't be here for long.
Kuzz has a great program director and GM, KBKO's operations manager is....well I'll just say, "a funny little man" and that is all I know about him. Not a personal attack, apparently it's a fact.
