Barrett Media: KLOS ratings

Ever so slightly off-topic, you have explained in one paragraph all the things I refuse to do with The Eighties Channel™. We do several straight segues every hour. No screaming "listener" sound bites. No mindless chatter. No commercials with high annoyance elements. Every day is a "no repeat" day from 6:00am to 7:00pm.

We call it "clutter-free" radio, and it is turning a profit in Albuquerque.

Maybe I'm just doing Spotify without the app?

Which is why your station is much more listenable. It's, to use an over-used word "curation." And so far, no algorithm on any service has been able to do better. Yes, play the hits but the human involvement behind the playlist makes all the difference.

It may be that younger people, or the bulk of users on these services aren't looking for that. Fair enough. But for those of us that value the difference, be it a well programmed station or a well-chosen playlist from someone we trust through a music service, it does make a difference and personally, I prefer things where there's human intelligence in the creation of the end product.

Thanks for those kind words, Andy. I spend most of Thursdays each week working on the next week's music logs for the automation. Some people will be horrified to know that I do use research ... in this case, custom airplay monitors from Mediabase that I pay $300 a month for that let me see what songs are playing at about 80 stations nationwide during the previous week, and how often; about half of those stations are in the top-60 markets and are weighted accordingly.

But I still make the final decisions myself.

I love the liners when they call jack fm. Very witty. But I miss the boot camp at noon with marci. That was my favorite part of the station. I take it with these numbers...Don't know what revenue there making but i bet it's decent n KLOS isnt going anywhere anytime soon.

But I must say the best wittiness came from the voice guy at indie 103.1 like 1 of his was only 48 minutes to drive to 7/11 for milk n bread.

But jack fm voice guy a close 2nd
aren't the "voice guys" you're referring to both Freddy Snakeskin? And yes, his wit is unmatched!

No. Freddy was at 103.1 during the Mars-FM days.

But his wit is indeed unmatched, as he proves every Friday and Saturday night on Flashback Weekend.

The sarcastic Jack-FM voice is Howard Cogan, and has been from day one.

Don't they already have a PD? Pio something? Cunningham was an Ops Manager over him for the last year or so, correct?
Pio Ferro is the cluster head of programming. He came from Hot 97 in New York. Previously he was national PD for SBS, PD of KLVE in LA (when it was overall #1 in LA) and was with both CHR and Smooth Jazz stations in Miami.
