Basketball on WTIC-FM?

Does anyone else think it is odd that a HOT AC broadcasts Women's basketball? I'm sure their cume really drops when they do anything that their audience does not expect them to do. Just seems like a bad move for a well rated station...although they seem to be dropping lately. More moves like this and the drop will continue. Bad move.

Thats the sister station to WTIC 1080 and makes most sense to put the game there. It would not be Hot or Lite taking the game.

Did 1080 have another sporting event on at the time? I think the FM has sometimes put these games on when something happening on the AM. I agree though about it being a bad idea. Not everyone in CT cares about women's basketball!

Maybe they would have been better off airing the women's play-by-play on their HD2 channel.

Maybe for the Hartford Wolfpack. I think there's more interest in the U-Conn Women's team. Besides, there were a few times in the 1990s when this sort of thing happened.

It was a programming conflict. The U-Conn Mens team was airing on 1080 AM at the same time.
So because there is a programming conflict let's just throw it on our sister station cause that's what corporate
piss ants do. Just flop it a 24/7 music intensive top 40. Cause after all those commercials gotta get played. Otherwise well have to air make goods on the Lite station and the ghetto blaster. LMFBO ::) ::) ::) ::)

This doesn't happen too often, but UConn Women's games are aired on FM if there is a conflict on AM. The Women were also on FM last Saturday afternoon because the UConn/Buffalo bowl game was AM. A few years ago, a UConn football game was on AM and the conflicting Red Sox playoff game aired on FM.

Won't all of this be moot when CBS sells off these stations in a few months?

Somehow, I don't think they will be selling these stations anytime soon. All the CBS Hartford stations look pretty healthy ratings-wise.

Yeah, they are so financially healthy that they have to layoff 2 hosts on TIC-AM. There will be more cutbacks in 2009 as the CBS corporate brass trims the corporate payroll fat.

I did not say anything about how healthy they are financially. I said, they do well in the ratings.

Why? Nobody that I know even listens to or owns a HD radio. But everybody knows TIC-FM :)

The Hot station would rather air the Gov's State of the State. Lite would never let that happen. But management can be a funny sometimes.

Agreed. Nobody's gonna buy HD radio. It's just not that important in peoples lives. Especially with today's economy. Radio put their eggs in the wrong basket on that one. I remember the talk at Clear Channel when this was all just starting. Everybody thought this was gonna be the next big thing even as more and more people were leaving radio for ipods and other media accesses. They should have invested the money on the programming. Crystal clear crappy programming is still crappy programming. But that's coporate thinking for you.

If CBS Hartford had a choice, it would not air women's basketball, especially on FM. UConn men's basketball is popular, and its football team is doing well recently. UConn probably offers all 3 sports as a package in its contract. Football and men's basketball bring in a big audience. Sports sound good on AM, and WTIC covers the whole state.

Why on Earth wouldn't they want to air women's basketball? The women's team is at least as popular as the men's team and far more popular than the football team.
