Not much to report from my week in Baton Rouge, time was very tight and the radio reception in my room was the worst I have ever experienced. Only the strongest two local stations were coming in without a lot of electrical interference, so all dx'ing from done from the car I rented and drove from the airport in New Orleans to Baton Rouge, driving within Baton Rouge and in the hotel parking lot.
First for GarFla, 620 WDAE was coming in pretty well on the car radio from the Louis Armstrong Airport in New Orleans about half way to Baton Rouge, then it started breaking up and in Baton Rouge itself, it does come in during the day on a car radio, but not really listenable and with several other competing signals. Of course no WDAE 620 at night.
WFLA 970 was not receivable at all, I did hear something on 970 that may have been WFLA, but it was unidentifiable.
870 from New Orleans came in well in the car at any and every point between the airport and Baton Rouge.
---------------
For Radioman148 all the Chicago blowtorches came in at night, but 670 and 890 had the Cuban interference and some nights WLS was dominent and some nights Cuba was dominant, but with WLS being heard in the background.
In St Petersburg, WLS is often not even detectable under the strong Cuban interference.
780 and 1000 out of Chicago both came in decently with little or no interference.
Thursday evening I excused myself from a banquet, saying I had to go back to my room for a few minutes and I made a beeline to the car to do some dx'ing (time was tight!) before returning to the banquet.
1040 WHO came in most nights but one night the Cuban on 1040 was dominant, what surprised me was WJR 760 out of Detroit, the three nights I tried........... WJR was AWOL; as though they were off the air. Also I was expecting the NYC stations to come in better than they did, WABC wasn't there, and like in Florida WCBS was, but with interference from Cuba, less interference than at home.
Another no show was 740 Zoomer radio out of Toronto, I was surprised that at least on the nights I tried, it was also AWOL, whereas last year in Gatlinburg, it came in loud and clear.
WSM 650 was reliable and strong at night, WSB 750 didn't seem any stronger at night than in St. Petersburg.
1130 out Shreveport came in day and night, but not nearly as strong as I had expected.
1110 was 3 weak barely receivable stations at night, one I'm sure was WBT, another station (Omaha, Ne?) and another Spanish language station.
That's about all I was able to dx, never got past 1200 (San Antonio) on the dial, except I did try the 1620 out of Cuba and it was not coming in anywhere between New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
