Beach Boys followed by Jan and Dean?

I used to not know the difference, but it seems strange to play such similar-sounding acts together.
It's not going to send the world spinning crazily off its axis for a radio station or stations to do that, though. In fact, in a format that appeals to older listeners, such a "twin spin," even if not promoted as such, probably isn't a bad idea.

As a gimmick, sure.

They might have been intense competitors had Jan Berry not almost killed himself in a car crash in 1966. Ironically, it was on a known dangerous piece of road known locally as dead man's curve. It cost Berry years of not performing.

Actually they were friends. Brian Wilson wrote "Surf City" and gave it to Jan & Dean. That didn't make Brian's father very happy.
Also, Dean Torrence was often at the Wilson home jammin with the Beach Boys.

J&D and TBB were perhaps the idols of the 60's car/surf craze.
For some reason (and I'm sure someone that knows more than me will chime in as is often the case), I get the impression that Jan & Dean were the real "car guys" and surfers, while the Beach Boys were more musicians that sang about cars and surfing.

In any case, Dead Man's Curve is still awesome even today.

Jan and Dean were college students, not surfer boys. The only true surfer in The Beach Boys was Dennis Wilson.

How about the typical high school jock who is the focal point of "Be True to Your School"? How many of the Beach Boys were football and track stars in high school? Mike Love, maybe? I know he comes from an athletic family.

The girl group sound, the beach sound, came before the British Invasion which
pretty much took over the 60's after the spring of '64

Obviously Brian doesn't look like an athlete but he was considered the best of the bunch who were not into sports. Mike had a relative that was a 6-8 Bb player but it didn't do anything for him. Brian was considered a good baseball player in HS.
Forgetting about whether he could handle a surfboard or not remembrer that Brian is a music icon responsible for a large catalog. All while fighting a serious mental illness for most of his career.

And Motown?

OK, Mike's cousin, Stan Love was an NBA standout who I believe has a son, also in the NBA.
