Beans & Rice & Rot?

Oh, I don't disagree with your assertions LC. However, Lunkhead is working feverishly trying to convince KTAR listeners that he's a "moderate" and the "voice of reason" on-air. That's just plain laughable.
He is an electrician who opines on politics. No education, no journalistic experience, just a good old boy ranting to fellow morons.

I disagree with one...the idea that Lunkhead (and I love that nickname) is an uneducated angry white guy. He knows exactly what he's doing. So does Chad Benson. So do The Men In Secret Underwear (in case anyone reading this thread don't get the acronym). And to circle back around to the subject of this discussion, so does Dave Ramsey.

This stuff works. Since the portable purple people eater meters have come into play, it doesn't matter if we all know that Dave and Mike and Chad are selling listeners a bill of goods. The data from the pagers says that what they're selling moves the digital needles. For the next four years (at least), it will behoove talk radio to express outrage at what's happening with the current administration, tell people they're supposed to be equally outraged, and sell them on a way to find "Financial Peace" along the way.

And of course they're going to frame it as "we're just the reasonable people trying to make sense of this all!" Meanwhile, if you land a job with Ramsey, don't cheat on your spouse (unless you have a book deal).
All fair points Deus.

I noticed Ramsey is a trending topic tonight, wondered what he may have said. Turns out he believes the Covid stimulus checks being discussed for some Americans are useless:

Fox News guest Dave Ramsey: "I don't believe in a stimulus check because if $600 or $1400 changes your life you were pretty much screwed already. You got other issues going on."

He is really out of touch with how many Americans, including many who watch Fox, live paycheck to paycheck.

Not to mention that Ramsey didn't exactly go bankrupt the way most Americans do. From what I understand, he essentially went bankrupt off of being overleveraged on his investments, and a banking rule change wiped him out. He was doing considerably better than the average American at the time and likely had a much better start at coming back from that financial devastation.

Roughly 2/3 of American bankruptcies are the result of medical bills.

I heard Ramsey say that on his radio show. Talk radio here, like in most places, is weak in terms of topic and listener interest.
What a pathetic excuse for a radio host.
He has zero empathy nor understanding of what we "regular folks" deal with, the bills we have to pay.

I feel bad for listening to this show now. I've been listening to Dave for a few months now, and have genuinely enjoyed most of the content. I started out really liking the show, but eventually started to realize that something was a bit off. This article only confirms my expectation. I'm in my twenties, and it seems like this show seems to be one of the few nationally syndicated talk programs that attempt to reach out to younger people like myself. The show is heavily marketed on social media platforms, where he seems to hook a lot of new listeners. Some of the basic financial information is useful, though if you are a competent individual, none of the advice will be earth shattering. I mainly enjoyed the show for the horror stories of people making mistakes. While it's been fun to hear some of the callers, it doesn't take a microscope to see that Dave is HEAVILY pushing his products (like Financial Peace University.) I never saw anything wrong with this, as radio IS a business. I figured that they were all useful tools for those who need serious help with managing their finances and lifestyle. I never did that much research into his "company." Like many of his listeners, I thought he just hosted a nationally syndicated program. I didn't actually realize that this was some sort of barter program until I actually took the time to pay attention to the commercials and how the program is structured. After reading that article, it becomes clear that everything he stands for is an act, much like talk radio in general. The Howard Stern Show is also an act, but he isn't propagating cult-like beliefs as the head of a questionable "company." If you told me I could choose to be friends with Dave Ramsey or Howard Stern, I would pick Howard Stern any day of the week.

Do an internet search for "Dave Ramsey Endorsed Local Providers" and read some of their stories. The Endorsed Local Providers (ELPs) are basically tax, real estate and insurance companies in your area that are supposedly endorsed by Dave to provide a "higher standard of excellent". From what I've read, these ELPs pay Dave a fee to send them 'leads' (one website stated that ELPs are charged about $60 per person that he refers to them, and they estimate that Ramsey makes $400k-$900k per month in fees from ELPs). That said, it's really not a great deal for at least some of them according to their stories. Some ELPs have complained that the fees they pay for these "leads" has caused them to raise prices for their customers to offset them. In more rural areas, some of the "leads" they're paying Dave for can be located an hour or more away, and those people may not have or take the opportunity to visit their office. Some ELPs find that listeners of Dave's show expect a good amount of hand holding, many are in sad financial shape and their cases aren't simple ones. In at least some situations, ELPs have paid Ramsey for the leads he sends them, and those people may only use their services once and they may not hear from them again, meaning they may not be able to bill enough services or time to make up for the cost of the lead.

I worked at one station where a "psychic" came in to do a show on the weekends. Apparently she left some printed material at the station and it went missing. She left a note in the staff break room, asking for help in locating the missing books.

And of course, somebody wrote on the note, "If you were really a psychic, you would have found them already!"
Why aren't all psychics multi-millionaires? Obviously they could cash in on every lottery, let along betting.

Silly rabbit, stimulus checks are for corporations!

Ramsey likely has to $ell now after Newsweek reported today that Ramsey Cult Solutions is being sued for firing an unmarried pregnant woman. Meantime, fellow brown-noser Chris Hogan was quietly fired about two weeks ago because he was "outed" for extra-marital affairs.

In short order, Ramsey gave Hogan a pass while he canned a female subordinate for supposedly lacking so-called "morals". Hypocrisy much? That's called discrimination, and I truly hope the woman takes that P.O.S. Ramsey to the cleaners!

Why has this story been so under-reported? Shameful!!

There's apparently a clause in their employment contract that forbids pre-marital sex:

Always read those employee forms they require you to sign. If she signed it and got pregnant, the suit will get dismissed.

Ramsey's response went on to suggest that, because Tennessee is an "at-will" state, employers are legally allowed to fire employees for any reason, or without cause.
"They freaking work for me," his response continues. "This is an employment-at-will state, which means if I decide I don't like people with green eyes, I don't have to hire you. I don't have to keep you anymore."

Not if she can prove there was a different standard for men (Hogan) than women when it comes to so-called "morals". It's blatant discrimination.

Also, "at-will" doesn't mean one can be fired for "any reason" like idiot boy Ramsey claims. Gender discrimination is illegal, that's why Hogan was quietly fired after this lawsuit when public. That was not coincidental by any stretch.

Unless her attorney is completely inept, at the very least, this will be settled out of court. Regardless, Ramsey screwed up big time, in my opinion. I hope he'll be severely reprimanded!

Like I said, this is a clear case of gender discrimination, no matter what the woman "signed". Respect.

He was ultimately fired, wasn't he? Are there different standards? In a theocracy, yes.

You think this Supreme Court isn't going to support the rights of a religious business owner? Remember the baker who said making a wedding cake for a gay couple is against is religion? The baker won.

I once heard Ramsay say something like "it's easier to live off of 90% of your income than it is to live off of 100%" (referring to tithing, I think).

This is when I know people who probably have needed 150% to 200% of their income to get by, and that was before the pandemic economy slammed them. Makes me wonder what planet he has been living on.

Can a non-Christian work for Ramsey Solutions? From reading this thread and the articles attached, it seems that not being Christian violates Ramsey's morality code. How is that legal?

According to this article, the answer is "generally yes." As long as you've been informed in advance, and you still choose to work there, they can require you to follow certain rules of conduct. It's a private company. A lot of it has to do with state employment law too.

I always caution people to read their employment manual, because there can be things in there you don't like.

The legal case that might have precedent here is the bakery that refuse to make a wedding cake for a gay couple saying it violated their religious beliefs. The Supreme Court ruled in the baker's favor.
