Beavis & Butthead

Looks like Comedy Central is running Beavis & Butthead at 6:00PM CDT Weekdays. At least this week anyway.<P ID="signature">______________

The two episodes I caught (Tues and Wed)are different that the batch MTV2 has (had?) in rotation.

Does Comedy Central show or pay for the music videos? I am wondering because music rights on tv shows are expensive and Comedy Central could cut out the parts where Beavis and Butthead are sitting watching the videos to save money. Or do they let them run? I haven't had the chance to watch them on Comedy Central yet.

Rights clearances is probably why none of the videos appeared when Time/Life put out their 3 DVD collection a few years ago.

I haven't see them either, but I believe the rule of thumb is that if the original show was done on video tape then the rights STAY with the show and if it was done on film they'd have to be relicensed for syndication. (I honestly have know clue how B&B was transfered from the animation)

Anyway... I would assume that the music vids would be part of the syndication agreement between the rights owner, distributor and Comedy Central. It's just like any other syndicated show where (c) music is used.

...or when the original Sony videos (which the Time-Life DVDs are based on) came on the market even earlier. As a matter of fact, the absence of music videos were proudly touted in ads for the videos.

> It seems a little ironic that we're talking about rights for the videos. Most artists and labels were happy to have there work torn to shreds by B&B, weren't they?Incidentally, some of the funnier bits came out of the video segments.

I can't believe I'm admitting to watching Beavis & Butthead, but I do have to confess to watching a couple of the episodes on Comedy Central this week, and they were complete with music videos.

Again, I can't believe I'm fessing up to this, but I think they are even funnier now than they were when they were new. ahuhhuhhuh huhuh. If they cut out the music videos, there would only be a few minutes in each episode. They'd probably have to cut down two or three to fill thirty minutes.

The video "commentaries" often were the funniest part of the show. Until they got on that "Cornholio" thing...
