Beck gone from WOR

What you can expect on WOR

Mike Gallagher is giving air time on his show to representatives from the church that wanted to stage a protest at the funeral for Dallas Green's granddaughter, who was killed in the Tucson shooting. Yup, this guy shows real sensitivity to issues affecting New Yorkers. Gallagher is the worst kind of hate-monger. He makes Bob Grant look like Fred Rogers.
WOR will be number one in the ignorant angry white demo.

I wouldn't say Laura Ingraham is better than Beck. She's about as dull, if not duller, than Beck. She sounds like what she is. A college professor giving a lecture on the air instead of someone who wants to engage people in conversation/debate, a la Savage, Dobbs, Gallagher or Grant (back in the days).

Well, to be fair, Gallagher is giving them airtime in exchange for them not protesting at the funerals of the victims of the Tucson tragedy. He's taking one for the team, although I suppose he does get some publicity out of this.

Not quite so. The Westboro Baptist Church agreed to call off their demonstration in return for air time on a local talk show in Phoenix. Gallagher invited them on his show AFTER they had called off their picketing. Gallagher is an opportunist. He's not doing this to stop the protest. A local host did that. He's doing this (1) In a despicable grab for attention and ratings and (2) Because these are fellow peddlers of hate. He puts them on and thinks he dodge the inevitable flack by saying he stopped the protest.

Gallagher is no better or worse than any other talk show host because of this. It's about compelling radio. Putting these freaks on the air makes for audience-grabbing radio.

Why do you think the Jerry Springer show on TV draws so many viewers? Because they feature trashy guests.

Sometimes sunlight is the best disinfectant.

Exposing them, educating the public about them, letting themselves show themselves to be the nutcakes that they are...just marginalizes them.

Putting them on the air lets them hang themselves. It disarms them.

Or with a friendly host and a pre-disposed audience, it legitimizes them - makes them just another wing of the Tea Party.

I don't know anyone that's been exposed to them that thinks of them as "legitimate".

Who's audience is predisposed to think of them legitimately?

They still only have 84 members of their church. No one is running to join them...even with all the publicity they get.

And most of them are relatives of the old man.

I just got one thing, does WKIP and WKIP-FM up in the Hudson Valley still carries Glen Beck after he left WOR? I don't see if he is on other talk stations on 1450 AM and "News/Talk 99.3", they still carry Glen Beck right after Imus and right before Rush Limbaugh. I still checked on "News/Talk 99.3" and WKIP's website, it still carries Glen Beck from 9 AM until noon.
