Beck will find a new home?

Talk is Glenn Beck may find a new home in Columbus - has anyone else heard this?

Have not heard this---but am not surprised....Beck and his people can not be happy with the low profile he gets on TDA. Plus, Beck is rolling out his new FOX News show in the spring--he wants all the exposure he can get. Wonder if he is swallowing his pride and moving to 1230; which he was so against before the TDA from TVN move.

On a side note, this would be a good opportunity for TDA to go all sports---move Dan Patrick up to 10 am and make his delay only one hour instead of 9....nothing like hearing Dan and crew talk about whether Game 5 will be postponed again on Wednesday while its being played...

Placing Glenn Beck between Bob and Tom and Dennis Miller is like putting ketchup in the middle of an Oreo cookie.

Considering Columbus has conservative talk, liberal talk, sports talk and Christian talk covered, the logical move for WTDA would be toward Hot Talk, with the possible addition to WTDA's schedule of the likes of Tom Leykis and Adam Carolla.

Pitting Dennis Miller and Stephanie Miller against each other should prove real interesting--something CNN should consider doing with Beck's old slot. That's if we can keep Larry King from practically clinging onto Stephanie every time she makes an appearance. :D

Where was this "TALK" of Glenn moving heard??

I still listen to him when I can. The signal basically sucks at 103.9

Nothing but static when in the downtown area or out east from picktown to heath.

Right.  I think talk is one of the worst possible formats for a terrible signal like this.  If your music starts fading you just flip the dial and come back later.  But if you can't hear the talker that you're loyal to finish his expose or tirade against whomever/whatever, you get pissed. This would apply to sportstalk, too.

Good point, Nu. Missing some everyday music on everyday radio sure isn't worth getting pissed about, or even mildly disturbed.

Clear Channel has swallowed their pride and is putting Glenn back on stations that dropped him a few years ago, namely WKRC in Cincinnati and WTAM in Cleveland. WTVN will probably be the new home, possibly WYTS.

Have I missed something?

Glenn Beck is syndicated by Premier the same group that brings us El Rushbo so why would Clear Channel have any pride issues? Premier is owned by CC.

Glenn is on KGIL here locally but now delayed because he got bumped out of mornings for some reason when Laura Ingraham jumped ship from the Salem stations. Beck's show is so much more entertaining than Rush, or Laura, and he may want more and better markets for the radio when he goes to Fox. Beck works best live because he does commentary on the news and he may do more of that when his Fox show begins. It was a little disconcerting hearing him talk about the stock market happenings which were changing drastically from when he aired live and the local live news inserts were at dramatic odds with what he had been saying.

Yes, you missed something.

Clear Channel swallowed their pride because somebody in the company apparently didn't like Glenn and took him off of his three Ohio powerhouse stations: WKRC, WTAM, and WTVN. Nobody at Premiere was actually sure why this was done, but ratings suffered in Cincinnati when Glenn was replaced by Tony Snow, and in Cleveland when he was replaced by Jerry Springer. It was one of those corporate decisions that really had talk radio people scratching their heads. Not sure if the person who made that decision is still at CC, but it appears the decision is being reversed: he's back on WKRC and WTAM. Could WTVN be next?

If WTVN is next what are they going to with Joel Riley? He's getting as good of ratings if not better than what Glenn had?

Also, WTVN prides itself in being LIVE and LOCAL. So, WTVN may not be willing to sacrifice three hours of live and local talk programing for Glenn Beck. Last but not least, Joel Riley is liked and appreciated by TVN management. I don't see Beck moving into the 9-Noon time slot on WTVN. My 2 cents worth.

We'll probably find out fairly soon. My guess is another holiday bloodletting will happen on 5th Ave. soon. Head count reduction and budget push will soon become a reality. Sad.

I too wonder if Beck will return to 610. There's no where else for him to go except mid mornings. Unless they gut Corby. Can't see that.

Does this mean he stands a chance at finally getting on KFI here in LA? He was on a super directional signal from Orange County then put on another directional, KGIL Beverly Hills. If they dumped Rush and put him on KFI it would make the local guy a lot happier because they lump the first hour of Rush onto the ratings for his slot (6 to 10, he's on 5 to 9) and that last hour is lower than the other three (6-9 with 5-6 not calculated). Rush could be a further liability if the new administration turns up the heat on talk radio as to the fairness doctrine.

I hope you get him on a good signal in Columbus, my former home town, because I feel your pain as to picking him out of the noise. At least for me KGIL is a better signal as I'm only a couple of miles from their transmitter. When he was on KLAA which went sports (it is owned by the owner of the Anaheim Angels) it was very hard to pick up north of downtown.

Hey I like Joel Riley. I tune in when there is a best of the Stephanie Miller or her fill ins. There is no reason to get rid of him. Then this is CC after all. I don't mind if WTDA carries Lionel since his show is not like the other AAR shows. Well WYTS is losing Bill O so Beck can replace him. Well on my HD100 Radio I can pick up WTDA just fine. same thing for my Nokia Xpress Music 5310 FM tuner. Then I can pick up WCRS on 98.3 from my downtown Columbus Apartment.

If I was the program director he will be the line up.

6AM-10AM Bob and Tom
10AM-1PM Dennis Miller
1PM-4PM Lionel
4PM-6PM Shark on Sports.
6PM-9PM Dan Patrick
9PM-6AM Fox Sports Radio

That person would be none other than Kevin Metheny - you known him best as "Pig Vomit" - the PD who coached Howard Stern to "say the call letters properly" and "be like Mr. Imus" during his tenure at WNNNNNNNBC. I believe Kevin exited CC/Cleveland a couple of months ago. Perhaps these reversals are in light of his departure. I wonder if Kevin gave Jerry the same "use character like Mr. Imus" shpiel he gave Stern all those years ago...

Theoretically speaking, and with all due respect... how long has Corby been at 610?

If ex WTVN PD Bruce Collins is to be believed, Corby owns Columbus. Don't look for Corby to be leaving WTVN
any time soon.

Between John Lane and John Corby WTVN tried and stuck in a syndicated show during drive time...it was Gary Burbank, and it failed miserably. I believe Corby is either #1 or #2 in afternoon drive, and have been for several years now, that and with less commercial inventory due to syndication, Corby is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Gary Burbank was syndicated? Any talker on WLW can be syndicated. Then WLW consider to be a radio superstation since it is offer on XM Radio.

Yes Gary Burbank was also on WTVN in the late 90's for about a year...it failed miserably in the ratings, and that's when Corby came back to WTVN from KDKA in Pittsburgh. As for WLW...they were considered the first "superstation" back in the 30's when they were operating at 500kW. Stations complained and thats when they were scaled back to 50kW.
