Ben and Skin....Suck

If Gavin had a brain in his head, he would swap BDH and Ben & Skin's schedules. BDH could use more than 2 hours a day, and B&S could use a little less. BDH's show isn't funny by any means, but it certainly is compelling at times. Ben & Skin's is neither. I'd say mildly entertaining at best... but they are getting better every week. As for BDH, he's a pro who landed a syndication deal, so he's definitely doing something right, therefore he should get more airtime.

Shaky is one thing, just bad is another. In the 3 days that I have tried to listen I have heard things that college radio jocks don't do. Sorry, but a veteran producer would help them schedule a show, direct them away from bad topics, and help them make bits work, and not bomb. The real truth is they got a position that they don't have the skill for. Period. Seems strange to me that if you didn't work at the station that you would know how hard Eric works, or that P&K didn't get fired, or many of the inside info tips you have only about one station. I don't blame you for trying to cover it up, but it is pretty obvious. You seem to act like this is the first time they cracked a mic... In that situation you would be correct, but it isn't the case. This is big market radio, and any show that is hired here should be better than what B&S are putting out. As I said it is not just a little shaky, it is just bad. Bad is bad.....
P.S. Be careful what you post, Posting here cost Mike S. a gig because Russ is so sensitive ;)

I am not a worker at 105.3. I'm a huge listener. I go to the remote broadcast. What some of you guys don't see is what they do behind the scenes. When Eric was with P&K he would make sure that they had a schedule and let the voice talents do what they had to do. When BDH came in to fill in for the vacancy Eric took over producing and again made the schedule for what had to be done. And now that B&S are on Eric again makes sure that B&S follow a schedule and let the voice talents do the work.

If you don't like what you hear TURN IT OFF. KLLI would be a whole lot better without you.

I'm not pro or anti B&S, but this statement begs the question, "If the radio is on, but there are no ears to listen, is it still entertainment?" I know, I know, very Zen-like!

Wow, amazing, almost like a real producer, can he screen calls too? All he needs to do now is come up with good topics, actual funny bits, give them some talent, and keep his mic off.....

:D

I understand Eric has also been spotted printing a story or two for his talent and allegedly he also once changed the ink cartridge.

I swear listening to that show...it might as well be called fark . com radio since that's about the extent of their prep work.

and Outlaw...you ain't fooling anybody

I don't and I did.

I thought this thread need a second look because now two years and two formats later...these guys still suck and in fact suck even harder then before.

I think I figured out the problem...it's authenticity or their lack of it. I listened to about an hour this morning..first time since they have been on ESPN and only because I'm home sick. The show sounds like a constant live read which is polished but not at all personable. I think when people listen to the Ticket then expect the many live or fake live spots from Dunham and Miller and the Hardline but those shows don't beat you over the head with that same tone during their segments.
Maybe I'm overreacting but at one point this morning Ben said something and I'll paraphrase "Friedo and I were at the Ranger game last night..Skin was attending a play for his child"....but then went on to say "many Ranger players were asking where is Skin tonight?"
and that's where I had to turn it off. I can't stand listening to talk radio that I know is just full of s**t. These guys feel they have to project themselves as superstars but I think misleading the audience is always the wrong approach. I just don't think fake ever works unless it's obvious fake through characters.

Seriously- you're bringing back a thread from 2008?

While your at it, why don't you start a captivating thread about the merits of Wolfman Jack's broadcast style.

Threads get new life in a number of instances.

I agree with tomficker, those two are attempting to walk softly and carrying a big schtick. It's not working and it never did.

It reminds me of two guys who are self-conscious about how mediocre they are. And if they aren't, they should be.

I haven't really listened to them since they left the Ticket, but I'm pretty sure that line was just a joke.

I actually like B&S but are they so desperate for material that they're gonna quote a guy on a message board?

They aren't the first to do it. I seem to remember a certain afternoon host who plead no contest to knocking his fiancee around doing the same exact thing.

I'm not surprised that these guys would try and make a segment out of a negative post and then probably have hanger-on groupies call in and rip on anyone who criticizes them.. Calling out this message board that nobody but radio professionals read is just lame. No one has any vendetta, I was just pointing out my opinion of the show..which is basically that it sucks! The fact is these guys have some talent but the show is insufferable at times. They are smart enough to know what they're doing but are still choosing to take the easy way out. So go ahead and read this too and maybe you can "burn" three more segments since isn't that what it's really all about.
I imagine though we'll hear Monday about how you were out at the Nelson and met Jordan Spieth who's a "big fan of the show....""
The Ticket works because they carry themselves from a standpoint that nobody gives a crap about us and we're just media slime. That's effective because that's the truth from most athletes perspectives. Ben and Skin though present themselves on air as if they were somehow an important part of the event they covered. It's difficult to describe but if you listen to them for any random half hour, you'll hear what I'm talking about it's full of exaggeration. But enough about them, I'm sure they are both decent guys in "real life." which is apparently not 9-12 m-f. ;)

Not everybody here is a radio professional. I have never worked in radio, but I read these boards because I am interested in radio.

Not a radio professional either, and it's been five years since I've worked in it. I just like staying caught up on everything that's going on.

And while we're on the subject of bringing up old posts, somebody start one up about that Marconi guy.

Also, this is my first time to post on here in seemingly eons - so hello again everybody.
