Bengals Radio Crap-ola

Congratulations to Bengal radio broadcaster Dave Lapham for wearing out QB Andy Dalton's "Red Rifle" nick name in just one game. You don't have to say it EVERY TIME he touches the ball! Considering the way Andy played "The Dead Red Head" or "The Maroon Buffoon" might be more appropriate. I don't envy the Bengal radio or TV crews having to try to sell a turd as a Lady Godiva chocolate for the next 5 months.

Lapham was in mid-season form with his cliches (e.g., carrying it like a loaf of bread) and his grunts and whoops over the play by play. "Pick it!" comes to mind while Dan Hoard was calling a Lions pass play. There was no interception, by the way and Dan Hoard seemed to ignore him.

To make matters worse, Alan Cutler is back, now paid by the Bengals to blow sunshine up the backside of every fan listening to try and convince you of the greatness of the players and to sell the team. One win and he'll be bellowing "It's a Great Day to be a Bengals Fan!"

I have never understood why anyone can listen to him on the radio. Glad I am a Browns fan. His job is to analyze the game not be a fan and yell during and after plays

Dave Lapham breaks one of the cardinal rules of being a color commentator on radio coverage of sports events - he talks over and/or cuts off the play-by-play man. Is it possible for the engineer in the booth to cut off Lapham's microphone when these times arise or might he have been told in advance not to?

I heard Hoard chuckle a few times when that happened. I wonder how long before he gets irritated at being yelled over.

Remember that a lot of these teams want their P B P announcers to be Rah Rah guys.

Up here, Jim Brandstatter was fired by Mr. Ford for being too hard on the team. In reality, he was just shooting it straight.
He ended up getting his job back.
I think that is also the year the Mark Champion was 'iced'. He landed elsewhere.

How soon before we miss "All My Bengals"? After each completed pass, will we hear a sound effect of a rifle, brought to you, of course, by Target World, since everything else is sponsored.

Dave Lapham is the Bengals version of John Madden.... "BOOM!!! Tough actin' Tenactin!!"

I have never had a problem with Lap. That is just his style and he is really enthusiastic and you would be hard-pressed to find someone who truly cares more about the franchise than he does. I like the work that he does for the Bengals as well as for Fox on the Big 12 games. There are homers all around the league and the Bengals Radio Network is really no different. I mean sure Brad and Lap went overboard a few times but just listen to the calls that are played on SportsCenter of all the hometown broadcasts and you will hear the same thing. These guys are one game into their run and they will be fine.

Last time I heard Trumpy he sounded like he was having some voice problems. I'm told he's a heavy smoker so he's probably doing voiceover work for cigarette company corporate presentations and iron lung endorsements. I actually liked listening to him when he was doing evenings on WLW although he could get irritating when he went on a rant. Very entertaining though and he often had good guests.

The Bengals radio spots are sold in house......(Bengals) not with CC anymore as far as I know......I can't wait till the Bengals and hopefully the REDS leave CC all together.

I usually listen to the other team's radio feed on Sirius. That, or just go do something productive because I already know the outcome when the Bengals play.
