Best and Worst Broadcasters In Central California

I'm going to have to agree...the first morning show with the two females was so bad it was embarrassing! The brain power that was coming off that show was next to nothing....dumb and dumber comes to mind. And then the change up with Uncle Buck still couldn't help Athena.
I have to disagree...Chris Daniels knows Country unlike Athena. Daniels' Daddy is a Country LEGEND and Chris has it in the blood...I hope she doesnt go down with that ship, I have met her a few times and she is a nice person and deserves better.
She has it in the blood? You can't be talking about talent.

I just checked their website and it seems that she "left" (was laid off perhaps?) to take a job in Louisville. They aren't set to hire anyone in her place.

She wasn't laid off...she gave, like, one month notice from what I heard...and lets see...talent isnt in her blood??? What market are we in- 66? What market is Louisville- 53? Yeah that's right, market 53 doesn't hire on talent...hahaha...she landed the gig making more than 60 a year I guarantee while you are stuck here makin' squadoosh! She must have some kind of talent to land a morning gig makin' what they are paying her...puhleeese...

Since it hit this board December 5, that's probably about right.

Obviously Clear Channel doesn't give anyone notice before laying them off. ;)

Kris just got promoted to a very nice situation. That happened only because important people liked what they heard.

Re: Best and Worst Broadcasters In Central California

A gig more than $60,000 huh? Talent...hmmmmm my take on things...anytime you walk through a door with Larry Daniels the LEGEND as you father it's gonna get you in places talent or no talent. Prop a couple good airchecks and maybe some spots that she produced behind the name....and there ya go...the thought of having Larry Daniels daughter working for the station is her selling point. Let's don't deny that. The thoughts "over promise...WAY under deliver" come to mind. Secondly, name a morning show that she has been apart of that has been successful...ever?

Eventually she will be back to 10am to 3pm wherever she is employed....her safe zone.

Re: Best and Worst Broadcasters In Central California

The AM gig is a stepping off point. From what I hear, they have many opportunities for her other than the morning show. Possible PD or OM duties in the future and some voice and TV stuff almmost immediately. It IS Cox, so I imagine that that could be a very diverse opportunuity base for her. I know she did some TV in Tucson or Pheonix or somewhere and has done alot of voice work. She has a site with a bunch of airchecks.
I must remind you...Market 53...53 and she got a sweet offer...sorry, but if you suck, you wont get flown to an interview across country, put up in a top notch hotel for 2 nights with your spouse paid as well, then offered a position for MORE THAN 60 grand- plus benefits AND other possibilities. SOrry but I just aint buyin it if you think she got the gig because of Larry...She has talent, knowledge, and experience to deliver the goods. Me thinks someone might be a bit jealous...

Re: Best and Worst Broadcasters In Central California

She certainly didn't wow 'em in Tucson for the short time she was with CDL

Re: Best and Worst Broadcasters In Central California

Best INDIVIDUAL Broadcasters in Fresno: Chris Daniel, Ray Appleton, Basil Roxalot (the weekend guy on the Fox kills me)

Worst INDIVIDUAL Broadcaster in Fresno (present company excluded) : Charlie Simmons was pretty bad, but for incompetance above and beyond the call of duty, my vote goes to...a man whose name rhymes with "Deaf Spaghetti"

Merry christmas guys...cheer up, some people have real jobs

Basil Roxalot! Love it…

Your “Best Of” and mine are about the same, though I’d include Bower & The Meatshop: it was gone too soon, but that was good radio.

Worst of: Athena made my brain ache. Sam Kane doesn’t sound like he knows where he is most of the time. And I don’t personally know “Deaf Spaghetti” but I’ve heard some great stories.

Hope everyone has a great Christmas, Kwanzaa, Festivus, or whatever…and good luck in ’09!

:D HAHAHA ...far from it...I just know talent from a different perspective than you do. She appearantly is doing something right to get an offer like she did in market 53. ANY aspiring radio DJ such as myself would look at that as insiration and a role model. Hey, if I were to emulate anyone at that station, who do you think I would pick? Athena? HAHAHAHAHA!!! Chris is far more successful and doesnt upset one's stomach to listen to.
I just think radiomanners was attacking her talent (or lack thereof in his/her opinion) without due cause. I dont care what you think of her talent, she is doing something RIGHT...HAHAHAHA.....

You just dont have one nice word to say about Kris do you?
Maybe she landed a gig you were up for or something?
Why the hate mr. radio"manners"? You are very bitter towards Kris.....why? You dont think she has talent, but circumstances PROVE otherwise.
There are plenty of people I dont like in Fresno radio but I give credit where credit is due. Daniels made it to market 53 and if the other half of that defunct morning show that kicked off the KHGE trainwreck made it to a larger market, then I would acknowledge it, but we KNOW that aint happenin'.

KBOS/KMAK Don Parker, Jack Armstrong, Barry Richards, Ed Prince, Bruno Lometti, Mark Van Ness, Rik McNeil, Jeff Davis, Dale Mehl, Charlie Scott and Jeff Scott-the oxygen thief and poster boy for retroactive birth control (god I miss Jack Armstrong!) a radio circus every day! Everyone should have a radio gig like this at least once in their career.

All of this of course is ancient history. All but one of the stations are long gone. But I have the best memories of those Fresno years at a time when radio sure as hell beat working for a living. (Ah heck, it still does!)

Heh... I worked at KMAK part-time between gigs (and babies) and I must say Charlie Scott was totally cool when my infant daughter grabbed the mic during a live spot and babbled her little heart out. I totally cracked up and couldn't finish the live spot... I grabbed the tape out of the aircheck machine but Charlie was listening. All he did the next day was give me The Look and laugh... it never happened again.

Worst? OMG, without a doubt, KEAP. It was my first station many MANY years ago and it was...interesting. On the plus side, I was able to storm in, take over, and have some fun with it.

Fresno radio in the '70s and '80s was a hoot. It was actually fun then and like robnokshus06 said, it sure as hell beat working...

Re: Best and Worst Broadcasters In Central California

Charlie was a good guy. Caught up with a few of his former DJ's at a gathering after he died a few years back. Nothing but love for him from the guys (and one lady) who'd worked for him....
