Best area jocks

Harry West, George Gilbert, Ron Allen, and Terry McNulty. Oh you mean today? Since the entire region has gone down the population tubes over the past 50 years there are not enough people with decent income levels left to support good live local radio. So I guess the answer is - no one!

Some time back I spoke with a PD at a Florida station about a DJ job, and recognized the name instantly -- Bob DiCarlo or DeCarlo.

And he said yes, that he was the one whose show and voice I recalled hearing in 1971. In fact, New Year's Day morning at 6:03, out of his show's first song, his outro was nothing but a hungover groan. No call letters, no title or artist or jingle -- just misery, into another song.
But that was from the signal of WDRC-FM Hartford CT, sort of at the other end of I-84.
For the longest while, 'DRC was in the punctual habit of showing up in perhaps ten separate ratings books and five states. Their signal still booms into Eastern Long Island and in 1970 often was the only FM pop-music choice for people living east of mid-Island.

Anyway, he once told me he was from Shickshinny PA.

Was DiCarlo ever a Scranton/Wilkes-Barre jock or PD ?

What about "Jumpin'" Jeff Walker of KRZ and Frankie Warren of Magic 93? These two people have been in the radio business for more than 30 years and they have been considered two most popular radio personalities in NEPA.

Walker began his radio career somewhere in New Hampshire? while Frankie was a disc jockey at WILK in the early 80's before moving on to Magic. In addition, he also did voice overs for area owned businesses in the region. Under Cumulus ownership, he is still going strong! I used to listen to him while sitting in the school bus when I was in Jr. High, our bus driver always had Magic 93 on all the time.

Frankie gets my number 1 vote....and a nice guy to work with too. Jeff is very good although he would fit Magic's format better. Hey...how bout some love very Eric and Dave on 107...filling Daniels and Webster's shoes ain't easy. Of course Webster alone should be on the list. Lest we forget the mid tier stations...Sharkey on Gem (he's done mornings now on 93.7, 92.1, and now gem). Jude is on the list at the River too. There's Mike Naydock...back on the air at WAZL. Also on the list; DC Day and Nikki at 107; and Big Kahuna and Hoyt at gem too. How about Mike on Fuzz.
