BEST FOR WINTER WEATHER...OR DOES IT MATTER?

since this forum is about who does things best i thought the storm coverage might be a good topic does it matter in radio anymore?
 
Well, in the upstate, you won't hear much winter coverage since most, if not all, stations here are syndicated or voice tracked, with not many current voice tracks...
 
I wish it did matter more but I think TV takes radio's thunder. I was off today due to the storm (Nice thing about working for the state ;D)

I listened to just about everyone this morning off and on. I thought WCOS and B106 did a very good job and Carolina 92.1 did very well too. Did not listen to WVOC one would think they would be all over it.

This isn't about SC, but my the recording by a TV meteorologist favorite pop station said to expect snow to start later in the morning wth 1 to 3 inches. This was even true when the station was local. The snow had pretty much stopped by that time and it was already over 3 inches. Then the station went to satellite and didn't bother to update.
 
WORD had closings on their website, I don't know about on-air. The Magic 98.9 morning show was on an hour earlier this morning and I believe the station was on auto the rest of the day. They would all do better just giving out what is open :D

With smartphones, TV, internet, etc....I doubt it matters nearly as much anymore.

i heard the morning show on in the afternoon in place of a voice tracker on 102.5. 98.9 and 92.5 all had local people on yesterday when i listened.
 
B106, as usual, did a far superior job providing storm coverage. I would attribute that due to the fact they are live 24/7 and all their personalities are the utmost professionals on air. I also scanned the dial and had to laugh at the mention of 92 providing coverage. Word on the street is not good for them anyway. WCOS, WIS, Magic 98 and WVOC did a great job as well. Much to be said about live professional radio.....
 
Oh, 101.1 has been live mid-days the past couple of days I know....not sure about afternoons (and I think they voicetrack nights anyway).

98.9 didn't have a morning show this morning but mid-days were live today. I don't listen to them, so I'm not sure, but I would think WORD has someone in pretty much no matter what.
 
They need to implement a Facebook-like "like" function on the board!

Of course, on WVOC, the snow and ice and cancellations were the result of a liberal conspiracy...

agreed from what i can tell cc had all of their people there and even in the afternoons was that entercom policy what about their other properties
 
I think the rest of the Entercom AM shows were on but I don't know about all of the shifts.

I listened to 98.9 yesterday later in the 7AM hour and it was music and commercials until they went live mid-days. Unless I missed something they were not there.
 
I was thinking of the does it matter part of this thread and I seriously wonder if it does- how many people go to radio for closing updates anymore? They're online, TV, and I think you can even get them in text messages. I can go to WHNS, WSPA, WYFF online and see all of the closings (without having to wait to see/hear the particular closing I'm interested in) and delays and they are on the air also. I can see it on a news/talk station, but I really wonder how many people are tuning in to WSSL, WFBC, WSPA, etc. to hear closings and delays.
 
i agree too unless there are widespread power outages. not many people have battery powered tvs that will pick up the new frequencies and the number of computer users would be greatly reduced and even fewer with smart phones. most of what i heard on the stations i listened to was schools which affects a large number of people. they were also promoting going to their stations website for closings. at least they sounded knowledgeable. i cant believe some stations had nothing.
