When Waky etown was WASE it didnt play itself off to be a Louisville radio station, so when the waky call letters were available , Wase grabs them and broadcasts as if Waky is still sitting in downtown Louisville. Why would an Elizabethtown radio station want to provide coverage to Louisville in the first place.

Oh, but I do understand. And you are mistaken.

This station on 103.5 went on the air over 20 years ago. From the time the original construction permit was granted in 1991, the owner intended for it to be a major competitor in the Louisville market.

I don't believe it ever lived up to his expectations, partly from distance, partly from terrain, and partly from 2nd adjacent channel Louisville stations on 103.1 and 103.9. They do not cover any part of Jefferson county with a city-grade signal, and because of that, they have their challenges.

But he has moved the tower site at least twice, if not more than that, tried different height and power combinations, built an on-channel booster in southern Jefferson county, and done basically all a man can do to make it a station that covers the Louisville market well. You have to respect a guy for trying.

And heck... I have him in stereo on a table radio indoors right now in northeast Jefferson county about a mile from the 103.1 site. One has to admit he has had some success at being a station that covers Louisville.

Now, back to your complaints:

What the listeners dont know is that Waky plays itself to be a Louisville radio station when it is located in Elizabethtown. It wouldnt be any different than a station broadcasting in Louisville claiming to be in Lexington.

It would be a lot different. For one thing, no station "broadcasting in Louisville" covers much of Lexington with a listenable signal at all. You're comparing apples and oranges.

Second, Elizabethtown is in the Louisville Arbitron TSA. By Arbintron's definitions, even their studios are in the Louisville TSA.

Third, their transmitter site is in Bullitt county- part of the Louisville metro area as defined by Arbitron.

Waky has a sister station in the same building WVLK that broadcasts as an Elizabethtown station. So whats the difference ?

The difference is the transmitter coverage area. Where the program originates has nothing to do with it.

Think about Bob and Tom, originating from Indianapolis, with traffic reports from Cincinnati. Is QMF a fraud for that? I don't think so.

When Waky is doing traffic reports for a city 45 miles away they should be doing traffic reports for its own town.We have plenty of traffic problems here in E-town.

Seriously? And who would buy advertising for Elizabethtown traffic reports?

The best part is Waky identifies itself on the hour as WAKY: Radcliff, Louisville. It cannot even identify its own hometown. This is why alot of people cannot take Waky as a credible station.

I seriously doubt their credibility is in danger over that with anyone but perhaps a select few. Most people simply don't care.

Most of WAKY's listeners are in Jefferson County followed by Hardin, Bullitt and Nelson Counties. We do events, help charities and warn those areas of severe weather. And we cover traffic and news stories in all of those areas. Most of the traffic action comes from Louisville. Radio has a responsibility to their listeners. It's not a location issue. It's a people issue. WAKY is locally owned and programmed and we do all we can to reach out and be a part of our listeners lives. Again, I'm proud of the people in this company because they sacrifice their time to help raise money for less fortunate people in our listening area. And after all, WAKY listeners could care less where the studios and tower are located. That's just "Radio-Guy" stuff. Les Cook
