Best News Talent

As I remember it was "Rhett Hamilton Walker" the first---a good British jock, I can remember him announing Hermans Hermits and the Animals....I remember him being on KOL when I was a kid......but time goes by memories slip away......he could have been on KJR as well.

Over at KUOW, all of the anchors suffer from "I work for NPR therefore I don't have to sound good or worry about my delivery because people listen to me just because its news and its important" syndrome. That being said, Derek Wong in the mornings sounds alright (though if he would just tell me the forecast high rather than say it'll be "around" he'd improve 50%) and Jamala Henderson and Sarah Lerner both have potential.

I’m forced to listen to the talent at KUOW because I like the content. (Unless of course I download the podcasts of all of the stuff I really want.)

I agree that Derek Wong has potential, although he somehow manages to ad an extra syllable to the call letters. Listen tomorrow morning; you'll see what I mean.

Jamalah Henderson is decent, but I wish she'd make up her mind whether or not she should put that "point" in the frequency. Sometimes it is 94 point 9, other times just 94-9. I know it's a minor thing... but as a former radio guy, it just grates on me.

Bill O'Grady? He’s got smooth pipes, but someone should tell him he sounds like a pompous ass that should be wearing a tweed jacket with leather patches on the sleeves and smoking a pipe... lecturing on mid 16th century lit. He does really give KUOW that "we're a snobby NPR station and you're really too stupid to be listening to us" vibe. :)

“Support for KUOW comes from the endowment for the federation of guys that learned how to speak on the air by listening to 1950’s staff announcers. On the web at: Listen to my pear shaped tones dot com”

Oh, and Ms. Amanda Wilde? Love the name, but she sounds anything but wild. I really dig some of the stuff played on "The Swing Years", but her monotone delivery is a chore to listen to. But hey, if she is the one that picks the music, kudos to her.

Transmission ends.

LOL!!! Bill O'Grady a pompous ass? Now that's funny! If you saw him you'd certainly think differently. But I think he'd rather like your depiction of his character. Now that is why I LOVE RADIO! It's theater of the mind. It also tells me that Bill is doing a great job at NPR radio utilizing a perceived snobbishness on his part. But I have to break it gently Mr. KMan, Bill is a lanky sort and very nice. Dresses like it's still 1969, though.

Mr. KMan did not say Bill O'Grady is a pompous ass. I didn't even mention Mr. O'Grady.

Oh.....my bad. I see it looks like it was rw.

Yes, it was I.

And please note, I didn't claim Mr. O'Grady actually is/was a pompous ass, only that his affected speech pattern made it sound as if he were. I'm sure he's a helluva guy.

And any of my minor critique aside, I'd rather give my quarter hours to KUOW than any of the other Seattle stations (aside from c-89-5) any day of the week.

Bill Rice is/was heads and shoulders above the rest in music radio morning newscasts. He even sounded good when he did the news with T-Man on KUBE back in the day.

He sounds very good on KOMO as well.

I do enjoy the talents that are the KOMO radio anchors. I think the format in which they are asked to deliver it in is sub-par.

For all-news, Bill Yeend is very good in the morning (though the minor sidetracks he can get into can be a little annoying). Bill Rice is also excellent on all-news.

And one guy who has very good pacing and delivery on news is Rick Van Cise. KIRO afternoons have not been the same since he left that slot, and subsequently, the station, many years ago.
