Best/Worst/Most Interesting TV Station Logos

P. S. Here's a promo 1998 touting a short-lived news partnership between CBS and Brasil's SBT network (whose logo, funnily enough, is loosely based on the ABC logo):

One would think SBT Brazil is owned by Disney if one isn't aware of this logo.

Here is a more interesting logo. The GE logo appears on the WNGE/WKRN logos from Nashville and the KOA/KCNC-TV Logos in Denver in 1982. Yes GE used to have other stations until they were required to divest some of their non NBC affiliates as part of the deal to own NBC in 1986.

Brazil's Globo, on the other hand, has long used a logo similar to the CBS Eye logo albeit with a TV screen in place of the eye shape:

The logo was also used by the Italian-language service of Tele Monte Carlo when it was owned by Globo:

Just by looking at the logos, it should come as a no surprise that Canada's TSN (The Sports Network) and RDS (Réseau des sports) are part-owned by ESPN:

Keep in mind GE as of 2025 is broken up to 4 different companies, The appliances division went to Haier where they hold the rights to the GE appliances name in the United States. GE's other companies are Aerospace, Healthcare and Verona split took place in 2024.

Here is something in common all these logo's have in common they use a silver ball at some point in their history in promos and station ID's like KTLA, WXYZ and Nickelodeon.

This one irks me to no end. Folks in Pittsburgh have known the "KDKA" call letters for over a century! In an era where folks in broadcasting are trying to emphasize their "local" aspect, why de-emphasize the local elements? And trying to find local news on their website is a disaster when it's awkwardly integrated with the national CBS news website.

Did they bother to ask any local folks in those markets what they thought was best?
Who knows but then again it's all about leadership protecting the Paramount+ app because of money and median ages on the national levels. They are trying to prevent themselves from being killed off by Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+,Hulu and Peacock. Also Paramount has to deal with the Skydance deal.

As much as we miss the old era when local TV stations had displayed their channel numbers it's less relevant in streaming given that the major O&O's have to blend in with CBS News and Paramount plus apps on TV.

Interestingly WDJT Milwaukee uses the CBS O&O's design in 2025 even though they are owned by Weigel Media. Then again Paramount allowed them to use the CBS News graphics as long as they are affiliated with them in this case.

KPWR-TV Bakersfield, CA 1983 (then CBS affiliate, currently Nexstar owned NBC affiliate KGET-TV). Yes this is rare to find KPWR-TV given that those call letters are more associated with KPWR-FM Los Angeles.

I wonder if, like (the separately owned) WPWR in Chicago, KPWR ever used the tagline "Power XXX" as part of its on-air identity. (Although, to be fair, "Power Station" and "Power 50" just screams "independent/UPN station," rather than "network affiliate.")
