Betting time

Hey Rob, Lite Mix in Mobile went all-xmas the day before Thanksgiving. I assume it will be the same this year!

Let's all take bets on when stations will go all holiday music this season. We still have a few weeks to go.
Here are my bets

(mobile/fwb market)
99.9 will go around the 15'th of nov
94.1 will go in December
Sunny 98.5 will probably more then likely around Dec
95.1 PCB UNKNOWN since that's weak RX out here.
100.1 PCB maybe by middle of NOV (yes, i can hear it with QRM from KROCK)
107.3 will be partial
98.7 will be yule around December
ohh.. 98.1 will stunt this season in favour for a new format /me hides!

(sorry if i don't know the calls off hand)

-Rob

well, i wonder with the problems this year, yule music will start later since that depresses a lot of people.

some notes about what I've been hearing (and no, it's not my bloody radio)

94.1 needs to get their audio worked out before they do anything.
or someone at the main board flipped the stereo/mono switch to mono and it's been mono for quite some time.

102.1 has this nasty noise on the right channel (which is not static) but i can hear what sounds liike a failing plug especially when the Beavis (obama) for president ad was playing today.

They MAY try it this year with the new, automated format. All Dan needs to do is replace the drives.

(a slight hint for the PD's who do read this board)

Tibbs....where do I start?

Jeezzzz Rob, have you ever set foot in a radio station? Do you actually know ANYTHING about broadcasting other than logging them as an AM/FM SWL? Does it give you goose bumps to use wannabee terms like "QRM" etc ?

Rob....it takes a lot more than changing a drive to change formats...in fact, you don't change the drives in 99.9% of the time. That alone tells everyone on this board you don't know jack s**t about how a radio station operates....

Ever thought that perhaps the ad agency for Mohammad Jr. sent out a bad dub of a spot? If you would read the other boards you would know that the quality of Mo Jr's ads are being complained about nationwide. Oh, one more thing Rob.....did you know that broadcasters are REQUIRED to run those federal election political ads REGARDLESS of the content and the quality?

Rob....not every swinging d**k that works in radio in this area reads this board.....if you have a problem with a station, CALL THEM YOURSELF ON THE TELEPHONE OR DROP THEM AN EMAIL FROM THEIR "CONTACT US" ON THEIR WEBSITE instead of whining here about it....perhaps your crystal set is broken...it may not be the station....or the coat hanger you are using for an antenna may need to be bent in a different shape. (perhaps you call it an aerial....I don't want to confuse you with too many technical terms)

Tibbs, I am sorry but I have to take a break before a blow a fuse.....this may take several posts before I feel better. Besides I have my day job to take care (which has been day and night for the past few days)......

bye bye for now

LMAO!!! Hahahahaha.

CHARLIE WOOTEN FOR PRESIDENT

Tells it like it is, tells everyone to go to he** and still has a 100% approval rating on RI.

Poledo --- I don't have a clue. I tried Mapquest.

(Just tell me if you don't get this...I can try to explain...)

No, really, I have no clue. Do I even need to know? Is it part of the secret password to the clubhouse?
Google comes up with all kinds of results. Mapquest says QRM is an airport in south east Australia. That would be one hell of a dx catch on one of those tropo-meteor scatter-eskip thingies. Is Rob complaining about interference from Australian radio stations? Geez!
How long does Australia quarantine mules?
Are they playing Christmas music in Australia yet? I mean, it is tomorrow there, right? Do Australians even celebrate Christmas?

No reply necessary.

QRM is an abbreviation used by ham operators for interference....QRN is static....SWL is short wave listener.....and I use that term VERY carefully when applying it to Rob

Yup, I thought you knew that, sorry. yes i know it takes more time then to swap out hard drives. I was giving out the short short version.

Where do they get their music from? I'm sure it's either FLAC or WAV or some format that only their software can hear?
I've heard tracks on stations that sound like there just 128K rips

(Free Losseless Audio Codec)

Should also mention that my idea of a DJ's desk is still old fashioned.
I remember when WYYY would have my friend run the XMAS graveyard shift. He played nothing but what the PD said. Straight analog (LP's) recordings. No carts.

Having music stored on a hard drive still boggles the mind (though, my collection will probably put some radio stations to shame of mostly 60s to 90s)

I do miss the old fashioned analog sound that radio produced and would like to see it come back.
Listening to my copy of "Days Of Futures Passed" from an open reel makes me wish I was in the 60's with a pair of good speakers and the FM tuner on "stereo 92" (should say early 70s)

EEK.

that's scary welcome to the pagan holiday season :(

(minus thanksgiving)
