Beyonce vs Asher Roth

Here are two hits. Both have messages, but only one has a message we can warm up to and feel good about.

Beyonce sings "If you really...like it, put a ring on it". This has positive and powerful messages. It's a reminder to women that they are in control of their lifestyles and can set the rules for their lovers. The main rule ... and this is the premier message of the song... is a demand for a true commitment. It is a powerful support for marriage. One of my tenants for a better nation is the need to rebuild the American family. Mom and Dad in a strong marriage with focus on raising the children.

Roth's song is a celebration of immaturity and decadence. It celebrates the wrong-headed idea of college life as being one big party. Then it moves on to treating women as nothing more then disconnected sex objects. He probably thinks he's being helpful by telling his young listeners to wear two condoms instead of one. How about not taking advantage of the girl in the first place? Also, no thought is given to the emotional hardships that often occur after having a one-night stand with somebody you might run into day-in- and day-out on campus. His admonishment to avoid 'doing it' with a girl that's wasted has nothing to do with what is best for either party, but rather as a way to help ensure that one can continue jumping from one party to the next.

In this case, the woman beats the man and that's ok with me.

I think the Asher Roth track is more than a little sarcastic, actually. Most people with half a brain wouldn't take it literally.

The Asher Roth Track is supposed to be funny,,, Its not meant to be taken litterally, like everyone who watches a horror movie is gonna go hack someone with a chain saw... If you would listen to the whole Song he says not to do a girl thats wasted and gone,, and dont leave the house till the booze gone... If your not driving that sounds like good advice to me.

On the other hand,, Beyonce,, I like the beat to this track,, but you shouldnt just leave someone cause they dont have 10 grand to put a ring on it, as the song implies.... I hate Gold digger females.

Asher Roth isn't supposed to be taken seriously, it's a novelty hit.  I'm still baffled how he got a record deal, though.

I'm not the biggest Beyonce fan, nor am I an anti-fan, but her fast songs I tend to like longer ("Crazy in Love", "Ring the Alarm", "Survivor", "Single Ladies") more than her slow ones ("Irreplaceable", "If I Were A Boy", "Halo").  I've been digging the tracks off the Sasha Fierce half of the CD more than the I Am half.

Anyone playing Seether's cover of "Careless Whisper"?  It's getting a great response here, but it might be too hard for some CHRs.  Speaking of which...we received the Oak Ridge Boys cover of "Seven Nation Army".  My mind is blown for the week. ???

I know that Roth's piece is not to be taken seriously, but joke or not, we tend to reward bad behavior too much. All of the opinions are respected by me, however. "Careless Whispers" has gotten play on Active Rock stations. It's a unique song for a group like Seether to do. Their rocked up version adds anger to the mix which was not present in the original.

Hmm...I thought this was a thread to see which act sucked more. I'm gonna go with Asher Roth. Yet another poser in a pool of CHR one-off losers.

Asher Roth will have his 5 minutes of fame,,,, He is more or less and Eminem knock off, though not as talented,,, It is a funny song for now though,,, but Beyonce is far from being the young girl female role model some make her out to be.. She dances and dresses Risque just like Brittney,,,, I dont love either song, but I dont like songs that put down either Women or Men... Disrespectful Men arent good, but neither are Gold Digger Females that only care about a guys paycheck,,, Perhaps why im still single,, but I dont blow my cash on anyone.

I agree with this, but I've learned to accept that this is just the way it is and as of right now it cannot be changed.

As far as Beyonce, she tends to always manage to put out decent songs, although some may be less fun and likable than others... but the quality is usually still there. Halo and If I were a boy, those are examples of songs I liked a lot the first time I heard them, then next thing I know, within the same week of hearing it the first time I no longer care too much for it. I think my favorite song off of Sasha Fierce is "radio".

Not too sure what I think of Asher Roth yet.... but his song seemed to disappear, almost as fast as "green light" by John Legend. I do miss "green light".

Speaking of bad behavior getting rewarded, get ready for the new Jadyn Maria ft Flo Rida, with her song called Villain. I'm not sure if they are going to keep the title "villain", or use the "why do good girls like bad boys" title, I've seen both used so far for the same song. The song itself is nicely done and very well put together. There is a Baltimore Club Version of it produced by Urban Noise, but I like the original with the breakbeat more.

I don't care for women who are materialistic or judge according to the amount of money present. I've even created a blog that touches on this subject in Facebook, but it's very nice compared to my views on politics and.... well, other things.
