Big Apple sour on Jack?

It hasn't died, but I'm glad ageism was brought into this thread.

We're weeding out senior citizens in this country and treating them like (BLEEP)!
A 55 year old with 30-years of experience is now "not swaggerish" enough to deserve to keep a job in a major corporation.

They don't deserve or need any radio stations because they don't buy anything. Uh-huh, sure.

And forget about solving the social security issue. There's not a democrat or republican who's got the mind or the balls to come up with a formidable solution to this dilemna.

They will find a way to get revenge on us younger folk and as much as we will hate it, we all deserve it, royally.

There's no need to explain to me how advertisers operate. Believe me--I know all about it.

I just think this has been part of a growing trend.

Sure radio has always kept a confined target audience, but now the consultants and the advertisers are like the Gestapo. Not 25-54. Go suck on Epson Salt.

Jack have "legs"?

Not sure you'll get an accurate measure here. We are all radio freaks and have very different perceptions and live in very different worlds than normal, everyday radio listeners.

When things are beginning to wear on us, normal listeners are just getting accustomed.

This format was very popular in markets that didn't have a high Hispanic population either. It was also geared toward Whites, Blacks, Asians, and Disco Diehards. They were trying to do something different that would have broadband appeal, and considering the big numbers for younger demos on K104, Clear Channel decided to try it. There is no indication that they will be adding talent. And Canada's music scene is quite different than the US. The original "Jack" in Canada sounds good. However, the US "Jack" clones, at the rate they are going (in my opinion), will not last.

You keep evolving as the Oldies stations in the 80's were playing 50's & 60's, now they are playing 60's & 70's. Eventually you will faze out the 60's and go 70's and then eventually mix in the 80's. "Jack" is doing some of that, but the music is ALL OVER THE PLACE as far as different styles, formats, currents, recurrents, etc. My TSL for "Jack" lasts about two songs, if that long. And, I did try to listen to both "100.3 JACK" in DFW and "103.5 BOB" in Austin. I just couldn't handle it.

I don't have facts and figures in front of me, but I can't see WCBS-FM billing less than WNEW?! I can't believe that an oldies station that covers several markets, including the main market, which has in excess of 12,000,000 people, cannot be supported. In 5-8 years from now, maybe, but Infinity has a lot of other problems in New York and other places, including Oldies stations elsewhere that were in bigger trouble than WCBS.

There is also a new story on Radio Daily News about the Detroit "Jack" styled station is also not drawing. I realize it is early for the format, and if it is still around in two years, you can repost my comments and make me look like a fool, but I just don't see it lasting.

Like I've said before David, I respect your comments and you have a lot more years in the business than me, but I totally disagree with you on this one. <P ID="signature">______________
