Big changes at KPRC

This is the problem. Folks like yourself think that what YOU get upset about is what EVERYONE gets upset about. I could really care less about child molesters and get sick of hearing parents who previously couldn't care less about the issue now demanding all kinds of special rights because they didn't monitor their kid. So you're just as bad as Pat.

Could really care less about child molesters?
Please tell me you hold no political or any other sort of public polocy position?
What special rights are these parents demanding?
If anything, rights are being taken away from child molesters as a result of their actions.

I don't come here to make political statements. I'm merely pointing out that people complain about hosts/shows/stations they disagree with, but have think everyone should love the things they do because everything should think like they do.

As to your question, though, just listen to any interview with Mark Klaas or Mr. Goldman and see all the freedom-killing, kooky, expensive things they propose the government do, that they surely never gave a thought to before their loved ones were hurt.

I still say look at the numbers. Advertisers want somone who gets the target audience for their products. Either you get them or you don't. I don't think they personally care (if they do, they shouldn't be in charge of buying advertising) what they host does or says. If the host delivers an audience, then why would they care? Look at how many companies paid huge dollars to Howard Stern or Opie and Anthony to get their commercials on the shows. I'm sure many people didn't like everything they heard, but they delivered an audience for those products. Go through demo after demo of the ratings and Pat wasn't brining a sizeable audience to the table. Right wing , Left wing... middle... get the people listening and you win.

Again, I think people are misunderstanding my basic point: different audiences respond to different programming. Why get rid of all programming (ie yelling and screaming) in order to make ALL programming "inoffensive" to the little ladies and those of darker skin? CHR stations don't make themselves interesting to 50 year olds, ACs/Hot ACs don't make themselves interesting to most men, etc. My response to you is that maybe you simply shouldn't buy advertising on a station you don't like, rather than forcing every station to homogenize so you can.

No, I'm not missing your point - I just think you're wrong. Of course we need different programming, targeted to different audiences. But my point is there is a certain skill in how the content is delivered. Times are changing. The talkers who only have outrage of some sort to offer are the new dinosaurs.

to KJCB: Two words: MASS APPEAL. I may not hit everyone's hot button every day but I have to at least offer a product that makes a listener at least want to come back just to see what I'm doing. My example of child molesters was simply a universal topic that most people with kids would respond to. Of course not everyone cares about the problem or issue.. which to me is odd that they wouldn't... but your point is taken. You do not care about child molesters or the harm they do to our children. Could it be that YOU are out of step with what MOST people would find a good topic or at least something worth talking about?

It's easy to claim that I am as bad as Pat Gray becasue I don't appeal to you, but that is really pretty shallow thinking on your part. MASS APPEAL is talking to the masses not the special interest groups who want to recycle cans, save the whales or drive hybrid cars. By the way, how is your Prius? Can you get an kids in it?

Feel free to tune in and call me at 713 589-2535. I would love to put you on the air. I'm on from 9a to 1p today.

Related to this thread and controversial talk show hosts; three factors that will save terrestrial radio: CONTENT, CONTENT AND MORE CONTENT. Unfortunately, CC, CBS, Cox and the other corp owners have killed that. Content is what will bring in the listeners and AM Talk radio has the right idea at the moment. Hannity, Rush, Savage, Jim Rome, etc... You may hate 'em, but look at their audience sizes. That's what advertisers crave and somewhere along way the Corp suits with no real broadcasting experience who bought all the top 100 market stations thought, in theory, that was a bad idea. Homogenous formats and voice tracking over multiple markets has given rise to satellite, podcasting and coming soon in a big way, Internet Radio. Dave E, you're on the right track.

I enjoyed Pat Grays programming and I'm neither "white," nor "angry." I'm Hispanic and I know the difference between "hate" and policy discussion. Just as not all white people think alike, neither do all Hispanics.

I think advertisers who dont cower to special interest groups can also reap rewards in "niche" formats. There are over 4 million people in this town. Thats a big pie to slice, with or without the bogeyman of some silly boycott.
