And I predict that it'll be a little time before we all spot these changes...

Could be a day, could be a week, could be a month, but you'll be able to spot the changes a mile away...

So is this Lonestar leopard about to change it's spots??? I spotting them going off the cliff in the latest Arbs. Would it be spot on to call Lonestar a failure only 6 months after launch?

Yep, well spotted. The lonestar leopard is definitely going to be changng their spots. In fact I heard them change one of their spots this afternoon in PM drive...

And I don't know if the format is a failure, but there's one aspect of it that anybody can spot the failure of now...

A little bird told me Pat M. formerly of CC - purchased "just in case" - Correct? I think we know the same bird. ;)

No, that was my original bird...but another bird corrected me and informed me that they themselves bought it with the intention of selling it to CC should CC decide to go that way. Its not owned by anyone at CC nor is smooth jazz coming to KZPS anytime soon.

little1 i hope you clear the cookies and history from your work computer, those CC folks get mighty upset if you spoil their surprises. They've been known to go through computers on both the 2nd and 3rd floors and look for radio-info cookies.

And yes, you've stated "spots" in your posts enough times that we all get the spots are coming back. Big whoop. Now go clear your computer before someone "busts" you.

Naughty naughty little 1..posting with a CC computer..
BTW Jeff, Andy Waldrop has probably worked at more stations before you knew what a clock radio was. He has very well connected sources in two top 5 markets. So I think twice before you question his posts.

if you listen long enough i bet you'll hear big changes coming to EACH station... because they all make changes over the years.

Except maybe for the little one in Mesquite that has been stuck in the 70's since 1996... :(

Question for you. I am not involved in the radio industry at all, yet from reading this forum, I get the feeing you are involved with KEOM?
If that is correct, why does your station only play stuff from the 70's? Why not at least add the 80's to your station mix?

Just curious.

Good Question...

Probably the answer is something like :

WHO'S GONNA PAY FOR THOSE RECORDS ? ? ? ? ?

RECORDS??? We don't need no scratchy records! We prefer pristine digital compact discs... ;D

Sarcasim aside, in 1996 our former music manager, Bill Sherrard, was trying to come up with a music format that would appeal to an adult audience. KEOM targets parents and other adults within the community. Since KEOM was not subscribing to Arbitron back then, with Lack of $$$ being the reason for that, what Bill did was essentially put together a questionaire for getting feedback from listeners. Essentially the decision to go all 70's looked like a good niche format, based on those results.

Fast forward to today, and there is plenty of Arbitron data to support a format evolvement. 80's music should be in the format, and it will be soon. But I'm not holding my breath on this happening during Dr. Griffin's tenure as station manager. He keeps finding ways to dance around the idea, and I don't feel he reads the Arbitron data the same way as most programmers do.

Sooner or later (hopefully sooner) an evolvement will occur.

Same "big whoop" that was made when Redbeard, Dillon, and Bo & Jim signed on to the "commercial free" Lonestar. This was supposed to be "free form, innovative, intriguing, compelling radio". I hear an awful lot of the same ol same ol BTO, Bad Co., Thorogood, Skynyrd, and CCR classic rock drivel.....not to mention a buncha old, boring jocks mailing it in day after day

The problem with your little birds is you crap all over each other. That's why you're in radio. ;D

The funny thing is.... that whenever I hear a Corporate rock radio station talk about being free form, innovative, intriguing, and compelling ..... I always know that they're talking about their contests, their promotions, the advertising, and, the chit-chit by their on-air "personalities" ... But, I never assume that they are talking about their music playlists.... Because, as we all know, and, as we have been informed.... "DJ's are too dumb, and cannot be trusted to play, the music that appeals to the lowest common denomiator, ie the masses", which, is the only group of people that their advertisers care about reaching ! !

And if you were, why admit it in this hapless market? ;)

I wonder if a tweak along the lines of something closer to KGSR Austin might broaden the appeal of the station. They aren't far apart now...KGSR, although classified as a AAA, mixes in quite a bit of Americana, ZZ Top, etc. The difference is KGSR also mixes in quite a bit of Joss Stone, Snow Patrol, U2, John Mayer, and Jack Johnson in with the Janice Joplin, Dwight, Willie, Wilco, etc.

KZPS has thrown in a Jack Johnson and John Mayer song periodically, but I wonder if adding some more of that more often to the existing library would help them out -- certainly it would cut down on the repetition. It seems like I keep hearing the same Bad Company and Allman Brothers Band songs over and over again.
