Ok...everyone take a chill-pill. I think SOME of you know the health issues I faced over the last 4 years. Those who don't know, I had my lower colon removed back in August of '05 due to a problem that my docs ALL said was due to stress. (I can hear the snickering already.)
Ya see, I was spending way too many hours commuting and working like a demon! That led to getting MRSA in the hospital that led to LONG hospital stays and several near-death experiences (I've had MRSA 7 times!!!!) I also have LUPUS Anti-Coagulant…discovered when I got several massive life-threatening blood clots post-surgical from being on my back for 6 weeks. I almost bled to death this last time due to complications. I had to have transfusions (Nervous Norvus) and plasma to save my life.
I'm thankful in SO many ways for the support and prayers I got from people I know and didn't know through that very trying time, including the people on THIS more recent thread that began again in January.
So you know, I don't post on here simply to get my name on the top of the page. Jeez. I did that a while back to let my pals in the biz and fans know that I was on CBS-FM again after being sick this summer into early autumn. I was (and continue to be) HONORED to be working there again, as many of you would.
Many times when I post on this board, a few “Jay-Haters” decide to have some anonymous fun. I realize that anyone in the public eye no matter how far up the celebrity chain (or not) is subject to scrutiny. It's part of the gig. I have understood that...since 1970. Some of the “Jay-Haters” have gone to meet their makers and have to answer for the reasoning behind the venom. What I still don't get is the viciousness of some posters, some are trying to be cute or funny at my expense about weight, means of expression, self-promotion, etc.. Remember, I make fun of myself and always have, so that doesn't bother me. I AM called BIG JAY remember. It is a moniker. It's a cartoon. It's nothing more than a tip-of-the-hat to guys who have been called BIG something over the years. Nothing more. Big Dan, Big Ron, Big Wilson, etc…
THAT being said...if you want to blast me for not having hired you or perhaps you had a not so pleasant experience with me for whatever reason or someone who did years ago then take it up with me personally. Some people wrongly confuse intensity and purpose with arrogance. TELL ME EXACTLY WHY you have these feelings about me or what I've written...and be specific...I'll respond with reasoned discourse. Just don't hide behind mommy's apron. My e-mail address is out in the open. I don't hide behind a name that is not my own just so I can call people names or hammer them for a perceived wrong. I don't hide. WE don’t always agree on things, but that’s being HUMAN.
I began posting on this board a long time ago, after I saw some things on here that simply were not true or needed some clarification. I've done that on Sniffen's board as well...and I’ve proven correct time and again with my analysis. I don't rewrite history, and IF I am incorrect about something, I quickly fix it.
Over time, I realize that no matter what I write here, I’ll will get blasted by someone...and then defended by others. Many people in the bright lights get that kind of reaction...pro and con. Again, it is part of the "GAME." What matters to me is simple. I just want to remain healthy and be gainfully employed in the biz I love! It ain't rocket science...it is radio.
IF you truly wish me well, that’s wonderful! I appreciate that. If you are just being snarky for snark’s sake, then write to me personally. I'll have some fun with whoever you are. It is likely that the people who do the most barking have a grudge to complete.
Like many of my colleagues, we DO have a lot to offer about the history and philosophy of programming, etc...but on a playing field that is fair and reasoned.
This board has a lot of potential to do just that. Some of the time things get personal or get so over-the-top that it is laughable. Perhaps I should just look at posts and chuckle. But I enjoy talking about radio with people who GET it and like to share ideas. When it turns ugly or silly, then I try to put a stop to it. Think about it. If this happened to you, you'd want it toned-down too if it got to a point where it became tedious.
My intentions are pure on Radio-Info and in life in general. The name says it ALL...RADIO INFO...not RADIO-let's-get-a-certain- personality-pissed-off-enough-to-where-he'll-respond-because-he's-thinned-skinned-and-an-ego-maniac-INFO.
Can we please turn these threads into something of substance and not a "Big Jay's an oaf-segment?"
I've attempted to write to some of you who DO post your email addresses on here to set the record straight; or to simply explain in more detail why I write certain things on the board. THAT is what this forum should be...an exchange of ideas and comments about the medium we so enjoy. With that come bad comments too! But I don't think this thing was designed to be personal vendetta-ville. I do recognize freedom of speech...Yours AND mine.
So in the future, IF I post something about being on CBS-FM or any other platform, it is because technology has enabled us to promote things in a more instant way than in the past. Self-promoting is yet another way I have been able to tell you guys what I'm up to! It's not to show-off or to hurl dirt. I'm lucky to be alive to BE able to do what I love. Simple. If you don't like that, there's the dial, or the delete button. I can not continue to have to defend having posted a little note responding to an item or to tell you all of something that is happening. I still expect the usual few to fling some more dung. So I'm ready with the shovel.
Again...thanks for what appears to be sincere good-tidings due to my health-issues during the last few years...even the snarkers (new word.)
Look, if I over-reacted, I'm sorry. I didn't ask to get MRSA. I bet a lot of you have someone YOU know who had to deal with it. It ain't fun.
So now you know.
Let's return to your regularly scheduled program of who's the best husky-sounding female DJ on a pirate station in South-Central-Northwestern Salem County who used to work on WMID and WHLW on the weekends overnights in 1972. (Some of you will get that WHLW was a day-timer back then...while others will find some fault to this last sentence.) Thank You All...
Good Night New Jersey...Last one out turn off the lights..
Oh...and BE BIG!
Jay
