People know the X is there, they simulcast for a month and announced the upcoming switch every 5 minutes during the last week or so, the problem was that they couldn't pick it up. They were big in the same north/east fringe areas they cut their signal to. Not really as much of a problem now that they're on Jamz' old tower, though.
Really, a true AOR would have little competition. Probably Rock 99 more so than the X, but mostly it'd be going after the people who've already given up on radio and own Alabama iPods*.
If you don't like Country, what do you HAVE? ERC?

Correction: There are so few rock stations in **central** Alabama it-apostrophe-s pathetic . . . scalawag.
Mobile (although the best are actually Pensacola stations), Montgomery, Huntsville, Auburn (although, like Mobile, they're not actually located here), Dothan, and Muscle Shoals all have their fair share.
It's just Tuscaloosa/Birmingham/Anniston/Gadsden where there aren't any at all.
* Alabama iPod: Those enormous multi-disc CD changers that one hooks up to their vehicle's electrical system, plays via a vacant FM frequency, and operates via remote. Admit it, you have one too.
