Big Shoe and Sharpe!

KT'R is not as vulnerable to the Toaster Talk image as it was several years ago.

Tuesday morning, NPR was talking about Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Barry Young was talking about the nominee, plus covering North Korea's shenanigans, and Austin Hill was talking about... parents who call the police on their children.

Fairness Doctrine radio at its finest.

Yeah, Dennis Miller, Savage, and Mark Levin will be talking about the major news topics of the day and Crummey will do "Do you believe in God?" or something like that, which is ok if that's what you like.

In early afternoons, Glenn Beck is on fire across the nation.

I don't think Glenn Beck is on early afternoons anywhere but in Phoenix. He needs to be moved into early or late mornings. Around here, if you pay, you listen to him live on XM165.

KT'R has no other option than running Beck in early afternoons. AMD is News and that's a big ratings and revenue generator. Aunt Carlos is local and that's what you do against El Rushbo. Any later than 3pm makes no sense (and nonsense is what follows him every afternoon!) Beck is BIG across the country and KT'R is doing the right thing in carrying him and sponsoring his live appearances in Phoenix.

Back to topic: The Nurse and I were roasting our wienies on Memorial Day and missed Big Shoe & The Sharpemeister. But we're certain they were better than the usual fare of Dumber and Dumbest in PMD.

I prefer KT'R to the other programs you mentioned. Yes, Barry Young, Michael Savage, JD, etc all talk about the top topic of the day but only if it's political and only if it ends with Obama is to blame. I used to like that kind of radio and listen to it a lot but now it bores me because it all sounds the same every day. Now that I'm in my early 40s and have a couple of kids I find myself more interested in the stuff KT'R is talking about. I'm not a talk radio expert, so maybe what KT'R is doing is really bad radio, but it sounds a lot more like typical people who are on the radio to me versus political hacks who aren't interested in anything but political things.

All good points....no need for two KFWhyEye sound alike talk stations.

...we're beginning to sound like shills for the Master Blogger. YIKES!

Feel free to put your name in the hat for guest-hosting duties on Aunt Carlos' show! ;)

If KFYI were too move over on the FM dial, you all think they would use the move to change anything up? It seems like their schedule is boring and stale. Does Rush and Hannity have to be live or semi live in phoenix? Just seems like it has been the same ol same ol for so long

KFYI needs some weekend programming, 5 hours of Dr. Fraud, reruns of Rush and Hannity, Mike "I'm ANGRY" Broomhead, Terri "I'm OUTRAGED" Gilberg, Jan D'Atri blathering about biscotti, and some fradulent woo woo psychic guy that pretends to talk to dead people?

Only things worth listening to on weekends are Kim Kommando and Bill Handel, and neither of them are any where close to being live broadcasts.

Could be worse, I drove thru Kingman a few weeks ago, and they were doing the on air swap meet...

The Nurse and I recall Ed Phillips hosting a swap meet some 20+ years ago on KT'R. Lots of calls from Edna in Sun City...Herb in Leisure World..etc.

I thought Pat McMahon hosted the "swap meet" shows. I can sort of hear him say "and Billie has a slightly used toaster.....she'll trade for a good steam iron. Call her at Yellowstone 5-4774"

KDM 7000 is either a personal friend, high as a kite, or most likely Big Shoe Stu or Jim Sharpe stroking themselves. They were lacking content, nervous and very awkward which actually makes them the perfect replacement for Dumb and Dumber.

Hey "Inside" -

You intrigue us all more and more each day. In the Alan Sledge thread, you reference working with Alan in SF and Phoenix. I should be able to do the math on that one. A certain night time personality at KSAN perhaps? I had the pleasure of working with one of the best marketing/imaging minds in our business as well. I wish Alan well.

But it's your total devotion to, or obsession with, Dave Pratt (whom I've met two or maybe even three times) that draws my curiosity. You began your illustrious posting career a month ago with a lengthy discussion of the jobs Dave is taking/turning down.

So many pieces of the puzzle... Jim Sharpe and I, without pseudonyms, have both affirmed what KDM7000 has written. Jim and I were just having some fun on KTAR on Memorial Day. We were very clear about that on and off-air. So what's your interest in all of this? And don't tell us again how you read Dave's book. Did you write it? (Half kidding.) Come on - inquiring minds want to know - who are you?

And now I journey back to my cave.

Respectfully,

Stu Evans

I myself was even thinking earlier today about how Crummey is "not as consistent", or not quite the same as he was on KFYI. I was also thinking that the fact that both stations have different ways in which they wish to have topics and opinions presented also plays a role in why Crummey is not as consistent to some degree. KTAR is mostly open with variety topics and has more of a laid back feel, while KFYI seemingly tends to focus mainly on certain issues at certain points in time, so I think this is why Crummey is less consistent on KTAR, as he has more freedom to "float around" topic-wise. Overall, I still say Crummey is good, although I do not always agree with some of his opinions on certain issues..

I think I should finally clarify and make a correction to this. I wouldn't say Joe Crummey is not consistent, but rather he has more of a variety of topics.... which is not a bad thing. There are probably 1 and a half things I've heard on his show that I disagree with, and that one topic where I disagreed was on something that can only be theorized on, due to lack of any proof or facts, so really there was no right or wrong answer. The remaining half is on the topic of abortion. The way in which he makes a judgement on many situations is usually pretty consistent. KTAR is good because of their variety, in addition to other things.. and I'll just leave it at that.

Good points. And BTW, Crummey did some great shows this past week! I wonder too, if it just has taken awhile to hit his stride with the difference in the way the two stations approach talk radio.
