Ok, deadman, I'll rise to the bait. You're on this KillDave/I luv Free Fm/ 'WBCN rules' thing like a dog on a bone. Do you have an axe to grind with someone at Dave? Or would you also kill 99x or 96 rock for FREE FM? Dave and X arent that different. Just seems like you're a guy with one silver bullet, no offense intended. I assumed it must be personal.

Well I feel the lack of quality entertainment for white males 18-54 is lacking in Atlanta unless you like WSB. There is no entertaining morning show in Atlanta period. I like Whip, but it's all music and very little talk. There is no axe to grind or hatred.

CBS radio finally had some insight and and bought in (IMHO) the best morning show on radio in America - Opie and Anthony. People want to laugh in the morning and be entertained while they drive to their dreadful job. Why not bring this show to Atlanta? Would you rather hear Barnes and Firfir or O&A?

WBCN is a rock radio station, not a FREE-FM station. I think FREE-FM is good idea, but DAVE makes money. CBS isn't going to filp DAVE unless they have a good reason.
They look at what WBCN is doing, this radio station sounds great. There is an (gasp) an actual mix of rock music. I am listening to Sublime - Date Rape. It was off an album Sublime in 1999. 99x and Dave has never played this song, but I have heard "What I Got" so many times I will change the station if I hear it on.

Joey or Deadman or whoever you are, it's very nice that you're friends with Fred Toucher and love Dave and BCN and all that, but you have a ton to learn about radio. Companies don't flip formats because something "sounds good". They do it because there's an opportunity to make more money than the old format AND there has to be a void in the market for a specific format. Flipping Dave to a BCN format is idiotic for the simple reason that there are already 4 other rock stations (99X, Buzz, 96, River) in Atlanta (5 including Dave!) and NONE of them are exactly killing it right now. What genre of rock (that's lucrative) isn't being served?

You missed the real #1 reason why formats have changed in the past decade - trying to take a point or two away from one of the stations in the other mega-owner group so your mega group station can move further up the rankings in a particular demo. In other words, not to win but to hurt the other guy. It's one of the reasons we've got so much of the same old crap on the air and why I prefer radio in the pre Reagan era FCC days. If you only had one station in a market, you spent some money and did the best you could. Now, you half ass program it on the cheap, don't promote it, and think it's great.

With all due respect to the legendary call-letters W B C N. Why would ANYONE look at what they're doing, when they can't even get a 2 share in Boston? Some may say this is a result of Stern leaving, when infact, this is representative of what they've been doing post-Stern for quite some time.

stop looking at 12+ - no one bills ads with 12+ numbers
O&A and T&R made it the #2 rock station in Boston male 18-34
and will beat WAAF by next book.

What's sad is that the real money is in programming to win, yet no one wants to put in the initial cost or take the initial risk to do so.

My original point still stands. Atlanta has more rock stations than almost every market in the Top 10. A "flanker" station (as they're called) would make no sense because there's nobody to take listeners from (pardon the dangling preposition). They all have crappy ratings.

I disclaimed the use of 12+ numbers in my post.

When BCN can beat Worcester's AAF & crack a 2 share, then they may be taken seriously. Until then, they're in the same league as BOS and FNX...and every other station which can't crack a 2 share If BCN had decent programming, they could not only beat AAF across the board, but they could amass a large enough audienc for a respectable 12+ showing too.

Trust me, CBS is not pleased with BCN's current state of affairs.

Not sure how Boston took over the Atlanta board, but I would agree with Content in that CBS Radio should have much higher expectations of WBCN, then to settle for #2 M18-34. They should be #1 P18-34, with strong a strong showing in other demos as well.

Adding O/A to the mix should help, and possibly counterbalance the listeners they'll lose from Deadman (aka Toucher) in the afternoon.
