Big Tigger out at WPGC

Actually Flex may not be a bad choice but like Olivia I feel like they want someone non-urban or not too urban.

I forgot about J and Julien though. They do have good energy for the mornings and that multi-cultural spin is perfect to battle Kane/Hot 99.5. Definitely would be worth a shot. How are their numbers in Chi-town?

That whole 'not too urban' front is what is annoying me about the situation at WPGC. They are a de facto, all encompassing urban contemporary but they want to stay away from that label. If they were to land someone like Olivia Foxx or even Wendy Williams then ought to be considerate of the fact that blacks (particularly 24-34 year olds), which the DC market has larger than average share, are a substantial portion of their audience. CBS knows this demo is their lifesaver that is keeping WPGC afloat from having less than a 3-share. Crossover appeal but knows the core audience is key for WPGC because Hot is certainly sticking to their guns with Kane core appeals to suburban whites. Kane doesn't even touch on community issues for blacks and Latinos meanwhile WPGC already has established public affairs reputation and programming.

Two words for Steve Swenson and Jason Kidd. Marc Clarke the former WERQ morning man would be a good hire. Marc and Free In The Morning and move the time back to (5AM-9AM). I already have the name for the new show LOL. The job has been posted so we will see I am pretty confident that it will not be a female because Free is in the slot already. I am just starting a convo about an old topic.

Marc is a pro and a great guy to boot.

I wouldn't mind seeing Marc Clarke coming there @ WPGC, but would also hope they would allow Troy Johnson to come along the way from WHUR. They are a duo that works magic on the radio for sure. Mornings with Marc, Troy, and Free would be perfect for WPGC to recapture the adults and keep the kids (with the music and topics), so it could give both Russ Parr and Kane a run for their money for the coveted 18-34 demographic in the morning.

fmqb.com has a very good interview with WPGC-PD Jason Kidd

Great interview, indeed! He has said everything I have noticed with the station over the past 18 months and it is working. I'm glad they are finding their way back to getting those 25-54 year olds back on their side as well. WPGC has some serious potential to get back to the overall 6+ Top 5 in the DC PPMs.

Working? I guess that would depend one's definition of working. By my definition, nothing about WPGC is working. If it still considers WKYS as it chief competition, then they both are doing poorly, with PGC doing only slightly better. If, on the other hand PGC views HOT as its competition, it is really getting its hat handed to it. In either case, working is not a word I'd use to describe it.

The young end DC Urban stations are demo stations the key demos for WPGC and WKYS are the young end 18-34 and 18-49 demo numbers that the public never sees. 12plus,6plus,and 25-54 are not the demos for those two stations, but PPM has forever changed both stations the golden era of WPGC being a Top station in all demos is long gone.

Uh, WPGC is #9 overall in a PPM market, where it is competing with 4 different stations that range from UAC to CHR/Mainstream. No, their competition is all of those stations (WHUR, WMMJ, WIHT, and WKYS), but WKYS and WIHT are their primary whereas the UACs are secondary. The realization is WPGC isn't going to be #1 because this is a news & politics-heavy market, considering how many stations it competing against, but they are doing pretty well.

The funny thing is I don't think CBS or Jason Kidd are expecting it to be #1, but their tinkering to find the right sound is working. Personally, I said they challenge the UACs for the younger end of the 25-54 demo, i.e. 25-34 year olds, somewhat to score some base with the professional crowd. However, I realize they won't do this until they secure and stabilize their standing with the 18-24 year olds in the long run.

@Kilamanjero Both of your points are very good as usual.
