Allaccess reports that the two of them are gone and that PD Jim Ryan will announce a new line up on later in the week. Another money saving move for CC?

Could this be heading towards a format change ?

I find this very shocking. You have two very talented radio personalities gone from a top rated station.

Both Bill Buchner and JJ Kennedy worked at WNEW-AM 1130. JJ, under the name of Marianne Roque did the "Milkman's Matinee" on weekends from 1978-1981 and Buchner did Saturday afternoons in the early to mid 80s.

Roque also did WKHK the Country station on 106.7 from 1981-1984. From there she went to WPLJ and changed her name to JJ Kennedy.

Why would Clear Channel drop JJ and Buchner (if they were terminated) if the station was doing well in the ratings?

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe JJ Kennedy worked for WALK (back then AM & FM) doing afternoon drive before going to WLTW. What a shame. Perhaps now it's time for one of those lower rated stations to go to that lighter then lite format, bring Bill & JJ on and kick some cc butt. Are you listening CBS? ;D

"Perhaps now it's time for one of those lower rated stations to go to that lighter then lite format, bring Bill & JJ on and kick some cc butt. Are you listening CBS?"

Each time I turn on 102.7 in the last few days, they sound gradually softer and softer. Today they played the Stylistics "You Make Me Feel Brand New" and that's uncharacteristic. They do play mostly uptempo music but some of the songs they've been playing lately make me wonder.

Also today on 102.7, "On Broadway" by George Benson, and "Through the Fire" by Chaka Khan. Rhythmic oldies but very soft ones.

If CBS had any brains, they'd flip a station to lighter than lite, hire these guys and make an all-out run at Lite FM. In fact, when Lite switches to x-mas music, they could keep the AC on for those who just don't want to hear holiday music, and build an established audience. They could throw in a few X-mas songs in the regular rotation but otherwise remain with an AC format and grab some Lite FM listeners.

I feel that Lite FM is in a much more vulnerable position than it would otherwise seem. Of course that's contingent on another station making a move.

I'm hearing that Delilah will take over the nights at WLTW.
I hope that's not accurate. I don't get the appeal of her show.
JJ always did a great job, and most importantly she was live and local, as opposed to a syndicated show from Seattle, which more times than not gets too preachy.

I would be suprised if WLTW were to air Delilah. They would be playing with fire. Also typically shows like Delilah don't appeal to New York audiences.

Without any competition (and who knows why there isn't any) we'll never know how good Ryan is. But one thing we do know is that he isn't stupid. Buchner and Kennedy are gone to save money, sure. But I can see the focus groups a month ago: "Can anyone tell me the names of the morning show personalities on Lite-FM?" When nothing but quizzical looks came back from cumers, that sealed their fate.

A very perceptive and possible scenario. But, the Clear Cutting of quality talent at Clear Channel in the past few weeks is obscene.

About two weeks ago in Allentown Ken Matthews was let go after 15 years in AM drive at CC's WAEB FM. His ratings were mediocre but not abyssmal. I guess if you are a long time employee or making more than six figures at a CC station WATCH OUT.

If you've been reading these boards for a long time, you know what an advocate I am for another AC station. I would love to see someone compete against Lite FM.

I like the idea of CBS hiring Bill and JJ. If only CBS had brains!

Even though Delilah may not fit with the NY people,it is sure ten times cheaper than having local/live talent.Could LA be next?

Count on it. The CC "restructuring team" is working its way across the country like a tornado in reverse.
