Bill Cosby ... Sexual Allegations

Bill Cosby to be charged with sexual assault in 2004 case

Bill Cosby will be charged in the investigation of an alleged sexual assault more than a decade ago, two people familiar with a prosecutor’s decision said Wednesday.

It’s the first criminal case against Cosby over his conduct with women, which has received new scrutiny in the past year. The 78-year-old comedian previously said under oath that he had consensual sexual contact with the woman.

A former Temple University employee told police the comedian drugged and violated her at his home near Philadelphia in 2004.

I'm absolutely dumbfounded that so many people are still willing to defend Cosby, and denounce his accusers. Sure, it's possible that a few of them are seeking publicity or some kind of financial payoff, but I'm sure the majority are legitimate. Here is what Cosby said in the deposition earlier this year regarding Andrea Constad:

“I don’t hear her say anything. And I don’t feel her say anything. And so I continue, and I go into the area that is somewhere between permission and rejection. I am not stopped...I think I’m a pretty decent reader of people and their emotions on these romantic sexual things, whatever you want to call them.”

So even as he defends himself, he more or less admits that he crossed the line. If a woman does not say or indicate 'yes,' then the answer is 'No'...and this rule even counts if you've given her drugs - which he has also admitted, by the way.. I knew this rule applied 40 years ago when I was single, and Cosby knows it too.

And, inevitably, it's become a black-white thing. Sirius XM dropped Cosby's only Top 40 hit, "Little Ole Man," from its '60s on 6 playlist, in October. At the same time, his comedy routines were dropped from the playlist of the G-rated comedy channel, Laugh USA. However, on The Foxxhole, a channel whose programming decisions rest solely in the hands of celebrity endorser Jamie Foxx, Cosby is played every day.

The only denouncements I hear of Cosby's accusers have come from his legal team, and even then they are attacks on the allegations as opposed to the women, generally. Media companies and colleges are free to pull content featuring him. I, for one, will only say that he's not been convicted of anything. This is not a defense of him, just stating a fact. If he is guilty of what he is alleged to have done, he deserves to be behind bars.
