Biloxi-Gulfport-Pascagoula Spring 2008 Book

Looks like Arbitron did it to us again: only listed subscribing stations. The Triad stations *are* listed, so apparently, they bought this time. None of the Dowdy stations are included. Neither is WABB (which always shows in Biloxi), so I'm guessing Dittman didn't purchase the book either.

I won't post the numbers here since I realize that's a no-no. But a few comments are in order:


- FM Talk seems to have caught on in a big way.

- Classic Country looks to have peaked.

- WWL has the lowest showing here that I can remember (probably due to the new FM talker.)

- Still lots of shares going to New Orleans and Mobile stations.


Overall, about what I expected. But it's impossible to do any direct in-format comparisons when major Country, Oldies, Classic Rock, and outmarket CHR stations are missing from the list.

I do not know the rule about posting or not posting ratings, but I do know Arbitron has several more floors of lawyers on their payroll than I do, so I will just briefly state that Dowdy's Country station is #2, 12+. Their oldies station is 7th and their Classic Rock station just missed the top 10.

I ponder what daypart WBUV-FM acheived it's highest ratings in? I'd wager to say 6A-2P. It would be nice if a talker on the Coast offered more local programming outside morning drive.

Overall Rip Daniles takes home the gold, but I wonder who has the highest listening demographic once you start to break things down?

Mobile and New Orleans stations showing up, no suprise there. A large wattage FM with X-mitter near Mobile would reach Biloxi and G'port with no problems. With an X-mitter of similar wattage in the NOLA metro, reaching Long Beach/G'port would be no problem and it might possible carry as far as Biloxi on a good day.

I see WQYZ lands well out of the top ten, almost dead last on the overall survey. Sad, considering all the format changes it has gone through, it seems Crap Channel just bought the freq. to keep someone else from getting it. It was such a great station in the Q92.5 days when Ken Clark was running it as an idependent, (not that rating were that much higher). You have to wonder if Crap Channel even cares, when they went Urban on 92.5 I don't even recall there being any advertising or promos.

Z95 seems to be taking a licking and more so with the emergance of GO-FM.

Sure...CPR and Monkey had about their best books ever, solid #1 across the board in their demos, Walton & Johnson dominates in men (hands down) in the morning, as does Monkey & Kidd in the morning with women.
GO-FM showed awesome gains in women (100% increase), seems to have taken a bite finally into Coast 102.

When I come to the coast, love to tune into the OLD WXRG for TRUE CLASSIC ROCK but now , like ROCK 92.3, is a thing of the past. Z95 does not hold a candle to the old WXRG.
What happened to that station, Weerdo? Did the corporate pirates overpower you? Like King Bob(Bob Walker) always said, the pirates don't have a clue what New Orleanians(and coasters, too, who are native New Orleanians, too)WHAT WE LIKE....
The corporate pirates would say that the so-called music test dod not fare well, but King Bob would call their bluff and pull his own test and PROVE THEM WRONG EVERY TIME........

Like N.O., the Coast's rock share always hovers around an 8 total, when the pie is split 3 ways, nobody really wins. We had a station basically mimicking everything we do, so something had to give, simple as that. There was a void for a shift, so we made it. All you do is get wet in a pissing contest...

Hardly, Mobile is much more of an issue being only 30 miles from Pascagoula...whereas Hattiesburg is 80 miles...

Jackson doesn't get released publically anymore..No All Access/R&R anymore The radio people and Inner city have dropped them.
That just leaves CC and some indies. Perhaps Arbitron will fade away in out smaller markets and we'll only catch a pile of poop for missing
web goals.
We have the fun promotions gone....Haven't done the Great Political Polution clean up since about 1990. Biggest pile of signa and junk taken from public property and brought to our location - we used Northpark...wins 1st prize,. There were second third prizes as well. First prize was $1000
Sold it to Northpark and KeepJackson beautiful. Good press and TV coverage of pissed politicians that wanted their signs back.

Actually, Bob, ICBC(Inner City) still subscribes to Arbitron,if only to utilize numbers that might be misrepresented by others. Know it's a drag for some online wannabe programmers out there to not be able to give their guidance on 12 plus numbers,but I kinda like them accessible only to the people that pay for them.

Laurel-Hattiesburg only puts three signals onto the Coast (100.3, 103.7, and 104.5.) All are marginal, "car radio only" signals.

By contrast, several of the Mobile FMs have viable coverage there. Two reasons: 1) The sticks are much taller and 2) The signal path is over swampland/open water.

WABB in Mobile enjoys substantial listenership in the area. Although technically, they don't show in the ratings because Dittman didn't buy the book.

Word from a friend at WCPR said that an army of suits with blackberries in hand were just given the nighttime “tour” of the stations. Her question might be jumping the gun, but does anyone know who these buyers are?

They looked like buyers because she overheard them talking about buying the station(s). . . “we’ll have an offer in next week.” Then they headed to the airport. . . that’s the part that blows the insurance adjuster ruse. Since next week is not far off. . . I guess she will know soon enough.

Hmmm...she...and at night, that makes it about two people to ask about rumour milling...
one was our CFO passing thru town for one afternoon/evening if you must know, and the other WAS an insurance adjuster that the next morning went to our AM site to take care of surveying some hurricane damage. I don't think there's ANY trading of hands right now as far as ownership in the current economy...and if it is, so what! That will make owner #4 for me in the current building...no biggie.
