BIN LADEN'S DEATH: HOW DID YOU FIND OUT?

Brian Williams and the rest of NBC are liberal a holes...of course Obuma would give the network that owns GE the scoop...can't any you brilliant ppl in the biz see it?

I bounced back & forth between CBS and Wolf Blitzer on CNN. Both seemed to know what the president was going to announce, but were respecting the embargo. That all went south when CBS broke the story about 10:45, and just about everybody went with "confirmed by multiple sources" by 10:50.

I also saw the Brian Williams interview on Letterman. I doubt that he got any news that wasn't passed along to the other major networks in the same time frame. Everybody in DC has their sources, and word was obviously passed to a number of Senators and Representatives before the President's announcement. Try keeping those people - or at least their press flacks - quiet.

Since all the major networks had already lined up plenty of experts for commentary - many in the studio - they obviously had an idea of what the announcement would be. Obama's people are smart enough to know that getting the press properly prepped would give them maximum exposure.

That the story was handed to all four news divisions with an embargo was confirmed when a Fox reporter mentioned that his network "responded to a call from the White House" regarding a major event related to national security. All four networks were amped up. NBC appeared to be the network that went to the mattresses by getting Williams to 30 Rock.

Williams willingness to get to 30 Rock might be the reason that NBC has consistently been #1.

I'll tell you what I DO see, and that's the so-called "liberal" news outlets also doing stories that make the current administration and/or Democrats look bad.

Ever see FOX doing anything but spin for the right?

Can't YOU see that? Most rational people can.

find out - about..... let me turn on my tv ...
*Omg* wow, im...kidding, it was actually on
the morning drive, that Jeff ( last name?) on

If Berns is the new clown on the board, gimme a mask too. Anybody else ready to clown up with Berns, one of the best air personalities to do radio in our generation?

I agree with you 100%. Mr. Berns is the consummate radio pro. To think otherwise is, uh, well -- trolls will be trolls.

Don Berns remarked (appropriately for the state of today's media), "I very rarely go to radio or TV any more for breaking news."

That, folks, means we have a lot of work to do to rebuild not only our relationship with our listeners, but our relevance with them.

Totally agree. "intheeno" apparently does not know as much as he thinks. DB is a legend! :)

Actually, I found out first here on RI.

Count me in!  Jim, the keywords in your post are "our generation".  It seems as though we might have more than one "Radio" generation on the board, at least, at the moment.  Maybe this board is headed towards a less collegial atmosphere than has been the tradition for the past several years.  Pity.

Ooh! Ooh! Controversy on this board! Already that makes it more interesting than SOWNY has been lately.
Thanks for the kind words, although my status as "legend" (in my own mind) has nothing to do with my politically-oriented comment.

I would hope that most people can tolerate other people's political point of view, even if it is different from theirs. Of course I also hope that someday the Bills or Sabres will win a championship in my lifetime. :D As to this specific question, I found out from Beth/Chet on WHAM. Sometimes I think their morning show is too "fluffy" but on that morning I thought they did an excellent job.

I was curious to see if this thread would get resurrected since certain posts were taken outside.

DB, have you appeared on The SOWNY Show lately? The two you did back when Armstrong was still alive are keepers, a nice peek behind the scenes. Plus getting to hear Jeff Kaye was a real kick! Out of all the PD's I've worked for...only a couple approach that level of genius. Although I have to give props to our station's new PD and the level of creativity he encourages.

John I agree about tolerating other people's politics...if I restricted myself to only hanging around people I agreed with, or listening to the music of people I agreed with...life would get realllly boring and myopic. Besides it's good to be challenged, for my two cents it's not enough to simply believe something...it's important to know why I believe it!

Henceforth, shall he be known as "The Incindiary Mr. Berns"?
