Blitz Mornings

Starting May 21st Blazor & Mo in the morning on 99.7 The Blitz. 6am to 10am music, talk and Shark with news & sports.

Just as expected, they didn't hire a new LOCAL morning show team. Blazor is still on air staff but they rehired
Mo. Will this morning show be music or talk intensive?

You wanted 'em... You got em! Blazor and Mo return to 99.7 The Blitz beginning Friday May 21st at 6am! Please join us as we welcome our new LOCAL morning show show with Blazor, Mo and Shark! You told us in our Rock Town Hall Meeting you wanted a local morning show connected to Columbus, you confirmed that in the 99.7 Radio Survey. It's Your Rock Station... 99.7 The Blitz!

So is this the final curtain for Bob & Tom in Columbus?

Some of us thought the Bob and Tom show would migrate over to sister station WTDA, 103.9. WTDA, WTDA seems to be a better fit for the Bob and
Tom show. They(NABCO) may not be able to move them over to there because of contractual agreements with Dial Global. Dose any one know for sure?
This is the Dial Global Classic Rock format: http://www.dial-global.com/DGTotal/overview.php?format=4

I think 103.9 is using classic hits, not classic rock: http://www.dial-global.com/DGTotal/overview.php?format=7

I was excited to see the Mo and Blazor were back on today. I was also happy to see Shark and Kelly were on the show too. I turned on the show, and in the first 14 minuted there were 3 songs. I guess a morning talk show is all music. I really wanted to give this a chance, but after the third song I just turned it off.
The Blitz is just back to their old ways. This is why I quit listenting to them.

They only aired 6 songs per hour according to Yes.com. That is pretty reasonable.

6:07, 6:11, 6:16, 6:33, 6:47, 6:51
7:03, 7:09, 7:13, 7:30, 7:33, 7:47
8:03, 8:07, 8:11, 8:26, 8:30, 8:41
9:02, 9:10, 9:14, 9:18, 9:22, 9:41, 9:45, 9:51

Much better than the ZERO songs that would air during Bob & Tom.

They're trying to please everyone here...a little music, a little talk. There's people that want all music in the morning, and people that want no music in the morning...so the approach that The Blitz is using is a good one, right down the middle. Six tunes an hour isn't too much to sit through. Also, no one ever said Blazor and Mo would be a morning talk show.

Not only that but it was the first day, give them time to work it out again, its not like you can just flip on the mike and talk for 4 hours, you gotta have something to say that makes people want to listen and join in.

There is too much music on the new Blitz Morning show, at least for my taste. I don't want to hear more then about five minutes of music per hour. They seem to have about twenty minutes per hour. Do they want to do talk in the mornings or music? Sure which NABCO would make up their mind. The old Blitz Grego morning show only have a few minutes of music per hour. Even Grego's first few shows had just a few minutes of music per hour so its not like they were unprepared to do a talk show. Is the new Blitz morning show just warming up and less music is to come in the near future? Mo, do you still post here?

This ratio is all about personal preference, but I am actually listening now. I like the music mixed in. They don't get stuck on a long boring topic that way. Leave it like this and I'll keep tuning in. There are already enough morning talk radio shows in Columbus, this is a little different and will attract another crowd.

edit: I'd also like to add that with the music breaking up the topics a bit, it's easier to tune in for my 30 minute morning commute and hear a discussion that hasn't been going for hours. The chemistry of the staff with Shark and Quinn added in, along with traffic and news fits the bill IMHO.

I like the mix of talk and music they have in the mornings. Seems to be a nice balance between those who want talk, and those who want music.

someone asked if i still posted, yes. interesting conversation. yes, we play about 6 songs an hour with the option of dropping one depending upon certain criteria. for the most part the songs are of slight length as opposed to a 6 to 7 or even 8 minute song which technically could count as two. i have mixed emotions about the amount of music. i am a morning "talk" fan. before ten, i don't want hear music. but it's not my station and it's not my morning show, it is rightfully so, Columbus' rock station and Columbus' morning show. i do think we are definitely allowed enough talk time to give a morning "show" whereas when we were "The Rock" we were many times reduced to about 8 minutes of talk an hour cumulatively and that is NOT a show. with the addition of Kelley and her now interactive news segment, it's as if we have been given another talk break we would not normally have had. in addittion, the prescence of a female voice and perspective adds another layer to the show. the discussion of whether there is too much talk or not is a moot point because in the PPM world, unlike arbitron, the data will be immediate and not as prone to anyone's personal or subjective agenda. Blazor and I have been assured that if the data shows people are tuning out during songs, then songs will be dropped. i've been in radio long enough to know an "assurance" in radio is worth as much as a contract, (insert your own opinion of what i am alluding to...) but i believe their word on this if not simply because preference will be indisputable. in a market where you have a music-less morning show, Rover's Morning Glory, as horrible as it is, if morning show consumers are like me, they will listen to us then switch over to talk until they feel we are back. now if this doesn't happen and people are content with the mix of music and talk in the morning that we give them... great... i don't want to be right, i just want to win. for those asking if Bob and Tom will go somewhere else in Columbus, if i'm not mistaken, this is the 2nd time they have been dropped. i think the message is loud and clear, for all those that like this show, there are too many that don't.

Hey Mo! Welcome back brother! One question... Is Hal Fish the biggest tool you ever met or has there ever been a bigger tool than Hal Fish?

Bob and Tom=Ugh. Dayton has been stuck with them since mid-1995, first on WING-FM(One of the first stations to pick up the show when it was syndicated), and then on WTUE from 2001 to the present. At least Columbus listeners aren't stuck with these two old geezers anymore...for the time being...but seeing that not only did NABCO drop them but their own syndicator, CC, even dropped them in Columbus, should speak volumes. ;D

The Blitz morning show is very enjoyable. Nice mix of talk and music! I can now listen to something else besides Dave & Jimmy in the mornings!
