Bob fm

I am driving to Little York in Airline and I was able to pick up 103.5 FM Bob FM. I am now driving towards Rankin on 45 and I am still picking it up too.

Strong tropo from the west this morning...I too heard KBPA completely overriding KCYB. Good reception from WACO 99.9 as well. Also found KASE in Austin giving KKHT major grief.

There IS a BobFM at 103.5 in Austin, but that's a bit of a stretch:

Never been to Houston, eh? He's most certainly hearing KBPA, as has been the case since it moved to 103.5 some 30 years ago. Of course, that won't be the case for much longer, so God only knows what in Houston will pop up on the frequency after the KBPA downgrade.

KBPA is a frequent visitor to the Houston FM band, much more so during the summer tropo season. The current 100kw stick south of Austin is a blowtorch, due to a lucky combination of geography and terrain. I too am curious how it will do once it moves to the KTBC-TV tower and cuts power in half.

Been almost 40 years (1983) since the move to 103.5 and the current transmitter site. I remember listening to the station's first day on the air as KRMH 103.7 in 1971...even heard the transmitter tests a few days before the actual launch!

KBPA is a very powerful station, I received it several times earlier this year in south Mississippi, almost 500 miles away.

Have picked up KBPA and KHFI in Beaumont when tropo conditions are right, and they come in like local stations.

I’ve pulled in KBPA in Galveston. I pick it up quite a bit here in Victoria as well. It comes in like a local in Cuero the majority of the time.

Rankin, TX has a station on 93.7, but last I heard that signal wasn't playing anything but a loud hum.

what in good gravy does that have to do with this thread at all and how do you know or why do you even care?

Another strong tropo this morning. I picked up KRRG running over KVET this morning south of Lockhart.

I heard it while traveling a few years ago across TX.
I was wondering if the original poster heard the hum, recently.
BTW, the KXFS station's owner you might want to stay away from, as I've heard that's the drug cartel...

Why do you think no one ever tried a BOB-FM format in Houston?

KTWL was "Bob-FM" about the same time KHJK was "Jack-FM." This is when KTWL was targeting The Woodlands and other north/northwest suburbs, hence the "TWL" in the call.

I rather enjoyed Jack-FM while it was on, though the AAA format that followed was a refreshing change from the typical fare on FM here.

The current "95-7 The Spot" is pretty much a "Jack" type of format. Somewhat surprised CBS Radio (now Entercom) didn't go with the "Jack" branding when they flipped the station in 2016, as they already had a "Jack" station in DFW.

It saves them the payment to Sparknet, owner of the Jack copyright. And it gives them the freedom to deviate from the strict format rules.

And, generally, it gives them the freedom to get lower ratings as they don't get the decades of format expertise of the "real Jack" format custodians
