Bogut's New Show

apostate said:
Bogut left KD for Ardmore Blvd. in 1983 for a five-year deal, worth a million dollars, and the opportunity to do TV in addition to radio. He was at KD from 1968 to 1983 and his contract was not renewed by Hearst in 1988. It was Jack's decision to leave Westinghouse. The chance to do TV was cited at the time as the main reason for the move. $200K per in 1983 could have played a part, too.

Just the thought of someone being paid $1 million to be on 1250 is mind-boggling in hindsight...

Did you ever see his TV show? The two things combined, Bogut might have been a contender for
Crime of the Century (Bernie Madoff was a few years late...)

It wasn't $1 million to be on 1250. It was combined radio and TV. O'Brien and Garry were making a combined $150K back then for just radio, so Bogut's radio number wasn't out of line at that time.

You're never overpaid as long as someone is willing to write the check.

I worked there from july 1991 to Feb 1992....I "hosted" the morning news and talk slot...and attempted to sell air time the rest of the day to business people in Uniontown. I also filled in numerous times on there local talk show that ran from 9 to noon. it was called the "Bee LIne" and the average age of the callers was about 103. Jim Humes and Kim Smith were , shall I say, wierd to work for. BYW, My wife , Barb , also worked there during that time , she did news mid days and pm drive.

John...I thought that was you. What are you up to these days?
Been out of radio for 18 years...doin well ...two more years until I retire, but a new set of golf clubs and try my best to wear them out. how about you?

That makes $75K apiece for OB&G. Not bad in 1970's dollars, but does not exactly make you Warren Buffett.
I fully agree with you that you are never overpaid if your boss is willing to cut the check. My point is that
today stations don't even want to invest minimum-wage in having live on-air talent on these AM frequencies
(and barely on the FM)

After sitting through the pilot of Bogut's TV show, I was of the firm opinion that Hearst
should have paid me!

Been out of the upper management chair for about that length of time...don't really miss it. Still rockin' the newsroom up in Butler for four years now.

Sad thing is they found out they don't have to. 3WS ratings went up after they started voicetracking extra-long shifts. The "average listener" doesn't notice the difference.
