BOSTON ARBITRON RATINGS: MAY 2011

Kiss 108 needs competition comment coming in 5... 4... ;D

HA!

While I agree seeing a good old fashioned CHR war in Boston would be great, I stress again that WTKK will not be flipping to CHR (not saying they may not flip sometime, but I doubt it would be ever be CHR)

I would never listen but I think the young demographic could use more competition. I'm talking WJMN. Mix 104.1 is a different format from Kiss 108 but still very close. So, I wouldn't do another English speaking CHR. I think either WJMN could use competition or do a Spanish CHR. Again, I wouldn't listen but I think those are the where the holes are.

Compares ratings of 98.5 and 850

http://fangsbites.bostonsportsmedia...gs/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

In 6+, 98.5 wins all but nights and weekends (trails closely)
In 18-34 men--6a-midnight, WBZ-FM is #1, while WEEI is #14. Let's just say 98.5's rating is almost SIX times what WEEI gets. 10a-3p? Sports Hub's rating is 14 and a half times as much as WEEI.
If that were height, WEEI would be a Lilliputian and 98.5 would be Dirk Nowitzky. (6" vs. 84")
98.5 does beat WEEI nights in THIS demo (boosted by B's; WEEI has Sox)

The AQH numbers have “spiked” for WXKS-AM from 0.3% in March to 0.6% in May. If CC doesn’t continue to see these numbers trending upward as the election season approaches would they ever consider another format change?

If they break even and get their ad buys placed they may stick with it, at least till the '12 election. If they stay with it as long as they did with prog talk, it would mean they'd be on till mid 2012
at least (they gave prog talk 2.5 yrs). If they had something to go to--Fox Sports (CC/Premiere syndies)? no...R&B or black oriented to pick up the WILD audience? Religion? Informercials? As it is they want to clear Rush, Beck, etc. as well as local with Katz. If they dump conserv talk some of
these shows could go elsewhere.

The implosion of EEI is stunning. Heads have to roll, unless Wolfe and Kahn have begged for a move to FM and have been rebuffed. Regardless, the moves EEI has made have been a colossal failure. I'm literally in awe of the turnaround. Wow.

Assuming that an EEI move to FM is from highly unlikely to a non-starter...then the only real impact that Kahn and Wolfe can have is on "re-arranging the deck chairs" (programming).

No doubt at all......this challenge is either going to make them...or BREAK them. ;)

i think they should lma with 96.9 there ratings aren't great and it would free up a space for two fm sport talkers!! espn overnights in fm!! mike and aaf stay where they are and greater media will have better ratings!!

>>"re-arranging the deck chairs"

Like the Mut and Merloni show--again, note the ratings: Sports Hub 10a-3p in 18-34 men (IIRC)
is _14 and a half times what WEEI got_. That isn't re-arranging the deck chairs, it's throwing the
passengers overboard :)

Needless to say, Howie C. was delighting in this (and in the news about DiMasi, Weiner, etc.) He
said he isn't really a hockey fan but thanked the B's for helping a certain station (98.5) in
crushing the ratings of a certain station down the hall...he's happy when Entercom stock tanks, etc.

I have to agree. The Mutt and Merloni move was just an unbelieveably bad screw-up. The addition of Holley to the Big Show was too little, too late. All the years of horrible co-hosts, LJ, Sterns, Smerlas, Burton, was just too much to overcome. There would sometimes be weeks where Larry Johnson would be on two or three times. I don't know if that was arrogance or laziness. It pains me to see an smarmy, knowledge challenged, punk like Felger come out ahead, but they brought it on themselves.

LOL @ "knowledge challenged"

It's sports talk radio. He's doesn't have to have knowledge, he just has to be loud and have an opinion.

I never got the Big Show change....why do it? I assume it's called the Big Show because it's a "big show of rotating co-hosts"

I'm the opposite on Mut and Lou...I love the Sports Hub and listen morning, afternoon and night....but the middays go to 'EEI, I can't listen to Gresh and Zo...more so Gresh...ugh....But Mut and Lou are that "fresh/young" hosts that stations want, I think it works, no?

According to Mr. Fang, it isn't. Mut and Lou have tanked. Mut just doesn't have it. I suspect that he will be joining his fellow "fresh/young" host, Matt Perrault on the outside looking in.

I know we're in the minority on this board, but I'm with you, I'd take Mut and Lou over Gresh and Zo anyday.

And I agree, ESPECIALLY Gresh.

Toucher and Rich (who will now use this on their show in the morning) do a good job, as does DA, and much of the weekend crew and live sports crews......but I can't for the life of me figure out how they are getting the numbers they are for mid-days and afternoons.
