Wall-to-wall college football talk, I'd imagine. In much of the country -- but not in Boston, arguably the worst college sports market in the nation -- college teams ARE their pro franchses in terms of interest and publicity.
I'd daresay I probably know as much about Portland (OR) radio as he knows about ours (history,
likes and dislikes, etc.), but we all have opinions and that includes those who sample our radio
on a trip to Our Fair City. For the heck of it I looked up Portland in Wikipedia and it might be an interesting place to visit. Also a trip to radio-locator.com showed me some stations nearby are
from Vancouver, WA which is not to be confused with Vancouver, BC

Only about 12 Christian Contemporary stations. Oh and Portland not only doesn't have major league baseball it doesn't even have MINOR league baseball:

But, on Monday, the Triple-A Portland Beavers played their last game at PGE Park, pushed out by Major League Soccer, not Major League Baseball. The Oregon Ducks lost last night and now have no shot at the BCS. So they probabbly have no sports talk at all. Any team that dresses like Klingons deserves to lose.CTListener said:

The Game, on the other hand, appears to be almost entirely local, except for JT The Brick from 10 pm to 3 am and, apparently, nothing from 3 to 6 am. One of the hosts is a former soccer player, so I guess there's mostly soccer talk (much much bigger in the Northwest than anywhere else in the country except ethnic communities of major cities) there. Some of the other hosts say in their blurbs that they talk about national sports, so I guess their shows are basically local voices doing bird-feed talk.
Both stations stream, so it might be worth giving them a listen during the week.

Most contradictory format name for a radio station: Christian contemporary. Hey, these are the guys who wanted to stop The Enlightenment. (Funniest line during this weekend's "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me" by Roy Blount, Jr: perhaps in reaction to further stories about faster-than-light neutrinos, he postulated that if Republicans ever got their hands on a time machine, they'd go back to the Middle Ages and try to thwart The Enlightenment).
Christian contemp. has a pretty good following in much of the nation and I have actually heard of some
of their artists like Amy Grant. Some artists like Van Morrison and U2 have touched upon the spiritual
but aren't CCM artists. And there have even been CCM heavy metal artists like Stryper (I think one of their
albums was called To Hell With The Devil...since many heavy metal artists were associated with
Satanism, a bit of a contrast there) who have brought forth a praise-the-Lord-Let's-Rock feel to their music.

I moved to Philly earlier this year after living in Boston for over fifteen years and I can tell you....the radio down here in many ways is MUCH better! Much more variety, plus most of the same formats are represented.
News - KYW is 24/7, WBZ is not, but I'm not big into RW talk.
Hot AC - WISX is more rhythmic leaning than WBMX. A plus.
AAA - WXPN is non comm and more agressive musically than WXRV
Public Radio - WBUR and WHYY are fairly even...and on the same frequency!
Country - Both WXTU and WKLB are typical major market country. Meh.
Rock - Both have heritage rockers, but WMMR is more WHJY-ish than WAAF, which I prefer.
Classical - Both have non comms, WCRB and WRTI.
Top 40 - I like Q-102 better musically than Kiss, but I miss Matty.
AC- B101 and Magic are about the same.
Alternative - Radio 1045 and WBOS are similar, but Philly plays more currents. No FNX though
Rhythmic - Big advantage for Philly. Wired leans more pop, and Hot 107.9 skews urban. WJMN tries to split the difference
70's-80's Oldies - WOGL is better than WODS, and they don't do Christmas! Don't miss WROR at all.
Classic Rock - WMGK leans more classic hits than WZLX, but they cover most of the same ground.
Sports - Both cites have two sports stations. WIP and WEEI are about the same. The Fanatic isn't as good as 98.5
Talk - WPHT and WRKO are about the same. No FM talker here. Not a big loss...

I remember visiting Boston last year, and being really disappointed in Mix 104.1 - not because of their music selection, but because of their on-air presentation, which seemed really dull compared to Star 94 in Atlanta (DJs on Mix 104.1 seemed disinterested, female DJs had a "sleepy" sound to them, cut directly from one song to the next without tagline, promo, station ID, etc., no contests, no concerts coming up, etc.)
I can't help but notice that Mix's ratings aren't that great, and I just wonder if anyone from CBS has even suggested "energizing" the on-air presentation up there

Mix's presentation is much more lack luster than it used to be. I miss the old days.
You might recall when they first signed on that they were urban leaning "Hot AC." In 1996 they went "Modern" and dropped the rhythmic parts to them for a very long while. They are a little more balanced now. Also, when Jerry McKenna programmed the station, they had more rhythmic titles in rotation also.

I just don't understand how CBS could look at the current ratings for Mix and allow their jocks to cut straight from song to song - IMO that's radio at its laziest form - it does absolutely nothing to attract new listeners, and very little to keep the current listeners from wandering down the dial
Someone from Mix needs to stream Star 94/Atlanta and at least listen to the difference...
