Boston Radio Ratings February 2019

https://ratings.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb013

WXKS FM #1 again.

WBUR FM and WEEI FM with big drops.

WWBX FM and WKAF FM with nice gains.

WBOS FM has a nice gain also for whatever reason. Not clear what they are doing good.

Up a full point over three books is pretty good. Average listeners finally warming up to the despised-by-radio-geeks imported morning show?

February sports blahs affected WBZ-FM nearly as much. It really is a nothing month for sports once the Super Bowl has been played. I'm sure we'll see WEEI-FM rebound strongly in the March book as the Red Sox season ramps up. Even early-season Red Sox talk should give EEI a bigger bump than late-season, or even postseason (in the April book, Bruins and Celtics talk will for BZ-FM.

Admittedly it's 12 plus.
WKAF 97.7 best ratings ever?
WZLX same (good) numbers. WROR focuses on 80s, goes up.

And..."WFNX-FM Alternative"...huh? It says N/A.Isn't that the 99.9 in Athol that wound up with the calls of Boston Phoenix radio? Adult hits (we play almost everything) not alternative unless the computer assigned the description of the old 101.7...

Yes, that's 99.9 in Athol, and I believe it no longer has an "Adult Hits" format, it dropped it nearly three years ago (and did not update their website), and has since been simulcasting WXRV "The River" (which it also did previously before trying their ill-fated "Adult Hits" format for a couple of years).

WXRV's format is listed as "Alternative" by **************** (it's actually Adult Album Alternative "AAA", but radio-online just lists that as "Alternative" along with "alternative rock" stations), hence the "Alternative" listing for 99.9 WFNX.

It's the WXRV "The River" format simulcast listed, not an erroneous reference to the old 101.7 WFNX alternative rock format.

VB continues to be an albatross on RKOs ratings, I see.

Without seeing real numbers, including Kuhners numbers in AM drive, we really can't draw a conclusion, but I can give an opinion that the 12 to 3 slot is unlistenable.

Not that AM 1200's 6+ numbers are anything more than window dressing but I'd love to know the 12-3 daypart numbers for Rush vs VB

Numbers for Rush and VB are probably pretty low but they sell advertising. Premiere/iHeart has Rush on about 500-600
affiliates, even small and/or low rated ones, but national advertisers want to be heard all over. They spend enough to keep Rush with those stations.

From 2008-16, Premiere paid Rush about $50 million per year.It went down greatly with next contract (though we don't know exact number) but still must do well--or marginal, even in "blue" areas like MA.Well, the sponsors are happy being nationwide.

iHeart so far has its local talkers on 680 and 1030 (at night), syndie talkers on 1200 and some on 680; news on 1030 etc. They have yet to sell 1200 off or change format.(1430 in a trust and could well operate for years with that).
Numbers probably small, yes, though RKO's aren't nearly as low as 1200's (in 12 plus) and 1200 gives them a chance to clear Beck, Rush, and Sean.

The numbers don't cover how much attention listeners are paying. Music, for example, can be playing in the background and the ads are just part of the background noise. But listeners of Rush and the other "name" talkers are hanging on every word and will catch most of the advertising, too.
