Boston Radio Ratings March 2018

You hate on him constantly, but he is #1 with adults 35+, 3rd overall 6+, 10th m25-54, 5th with women 6+, those are some pretty good standings if you ask me.

Apparently you've never listened to him.....he's a drama queen, he doesn't do show prep except to monitor what limbaugh is saying then he parrots him.

He's successful enough to get a vote of confidence in iHeart renewing him--for a year, at least, and claims he may get syndicated.(Not as long as Premiere has Beck, Rush, and Sean) Who knows. He made the "we'll try to go national" claim when he moved to noon.

That was almost 3 years ago.Still only on RKO.

When he went to noontime (3 years ago) he told his audience that if he raised his ratings at the end of six months he'd go national baaaaay bee...........he also told his audience that while doing the morning show he was not giving 100% and blamed it on his kids and promised his audience that when he went to afternoons he would give them 100%....I listened for a couple of months and didn't hear any difference....no show prep, still a drama queen, name calls, insults libs, etc etc etc. and from what I see on FB nothing has changed.

I hate to be the bearer of Bad News, but WBZ-AM is mistakenly listed as being owned by Beasley Media. The station is owned by IHeart!

Sorry about that. It's WBZ-FM that's owned by Beasley Media. WBZ-AM is owned by IHeart. I regret the inconvenience I may have caused you.

He was there, he was willing, and at that time with the station changing ownership, and IHrt having other things to do in Boston ( like decimate WBZ AM ) they needed to keep a warm body in the chair until they divested 1430, and figured out what else was going to happen.

Now the question is, when his contract comes up, do they slide Limbaugh in there or keep him?

The argument for keeping him: he is there, he has an audience, rumor has it he does OK in the ratings, I have no idea about the
revenue end of it. With Limbaugh on the far side of 65, and costing them big money, after the 2020 Election he might just want to hang it up... or IHrt, if they still exist, may not have enough stations of their own, or affiliates willing to fork over the cash / barter to keep him.... his P1 is aging .....

The argument for not renewing Kuhner..... I'm sure we can all think of a few, but the biggest one would be IHrt wanting to put their own syndicated talker from Premier in that spot, on that station, in order to say they are clearing the national spots in Boston on a 50KW station.

A third possibility.... he goes back to AM drive and replaces that God awful morning show..... and Limbaugh gets 12 to 3 (again)

That would be crazy. They can clear the spots without clearing the show if that's their main goal. I don't think it is. Local hosts can make more money than clearing syndicated hosts. That's why iHeart is fine with Limbaugh and the other syndication on 1200. A clear is a clear, regardless of the signal. Take a look at how iHeart runs KFI and the LA market if you want a good example of how they run things.

A clear is a clear, regardless of the signal.

A little yes, and a little no.

When they want to simply say "It clears in Boston"....or "it clears in the top 15 markets...then, ya, I suppose.

However, when they calculate ratings and 1200AM's ratings are virtually non-existant....then those responsible for making the show perform (for the network) financially start looking at things like signal, ratings...station viability, etc.

But those people are not the ones who actually make the decisions at the station level. And as I said, when you look at how they handled things in LA, they put local hosts on KFI and syndicated hosts on KEIB, a much weaker station. It's obvious they've decided to run Boston the same way. If they have an advertiser who needs to be on WRKO, there are ways to do that without running a syndicated show. For most of the syndicated advertisers, all they really need to do is say it clears in major markets.

But those people are not the ones who actually make the decisions at the station level.

Sometimes the decisions are not made at the station level.

And sometimes, a syndicator will "sweeten the deal" to get the placement they want.

Some markets/situations are unique.

But so far, obviously, Premiere hasn't "sweetened the deal," because they're all still sitting at 1200.

My opinion, and this is just an opinion, is that Premiere isn't in the same position it may have been in a few years ago.

He's on at the same time as Rush, so he must have a producer listening and transcribing for him. Because that would be so productive.

So much has changed within the last few years that I don't think anyone is in the same position they were just a few years ago! ;-)

1. The 35+demo is mostly insignificant unless your goal is to attract Nursing Homes and Belmont Medical Supply. I guarantee that 35 plus is top heavy at 50.

2. 10th m25-54 is not impressive.

3. I know what I can buy a 60 on Kuhner for and the rates do not jive with a 3rd overall 6+ from 12p-3p

4. I don t have to look at ratings to get a good sense of his numbers, just look at the type of advertisers he has and look at how many renew.

I listen to the Crazy Man with the Gypsy accent for laughs. But sadly, some people actually believe the twisted ideas he bangs on about day after day.

agreed 10th place in what should be his P1 doesn't do anything for me either in anyone that would buy spots based on the 6 Plus numbers is out of their mind and knows nothing about media

Hate on him? To quote K000nah: “No, no, no, no, no.” He’s the gift that keeps on giving!

Interestingly enough, I’ve noticed more slots for IHeart syndicated hosts popping up. I heard a commercial for RKO carrying Kim Commando(sp?) in one of their weekend slots earlier this week.

Inasmuch as I agree the morning show (or as a friend of mine calls it: “Two Liberals and a Moonbat”) is a complete disaster, I cannot see K000nah going back to mornings. I would think the listening audience for drive-time is looking for a different “product” than what K000nah offers in his 12-3 slot. The more liberal bias on the morning show is specifically geared to attract liberal commuters, which K00nah definitely would not bring.

All IMHO of course, given I’m just a consumer, not a professional, of broadcast radio.

Not aware that she's an iHeart host. Her show is syndicated by WestStar Talk Radio, which she owns with her husband.
