Boston Radio Ratings: May 2023

She's host of the only other show on his Network and it must be doing OK on the various stations that run it. What does he do then, try to syndicate Kuhner and help him go national, baybee?

Kuhner's too butt-hurt today he didn't make Michelle Wu's "Enemy's List".

I was thinking Hank Stolz but apparently he's back on mornings on WCRN... I wasn't aware that he had returned (CRN isn't on my normal rotation of stations). I used to listen to him before CRN converted to simulcasting Fox News. At least now I have a morning alternative to K00000nah, especially when he's insufferable or his topic is droning on (which is 4 out of 5 days it seems).

No way Howie is going to take Kuhner in to his circus.

Mrs Howie controls the cards, Grace was probably a reasonably priced employee that was in the right place at the right time when Limbaugh died and after Premier stopped doing their months long tribute giving them enough time to find replacements... and Howie or Mrs Howie saw the opportunity to expand the network another 3 hours.

They already had the studio space and infrastructure in place, they had potential advertisers in place, it was a no brainer

Kuhner and Carr had very little to do with each other when they were under the same tent at WRKO, there was no Howie in the AM promoting his show, and there was Kuhner on Howies show... again the PD could have insisted but they didn't do it for some unknown reason.

Kuhner must be working for next to nothing at WRKO, he doesn't even show up in the ratings

Kuhner went off on Carr several times last year after Carr pulled his support for Geoff Diehl. I doubt Carr has any interest in working with Kuhner.
As someone who sold syndicated programming for several years, I can say that clearing Kuhner would be next to impossible. The first question a PD is going to ask is, how are this guys ratings in Boston. How many talk stations does IHEART own? If they thought Kuhner had any potential they would have added him to some of their stations by now.

That’s why they’ve added Jim Polito from WTAG (and formerly channel 25) to the other iHeart stations in Southern New England.

Well what I meant was heck helping to syndicate Kuhner would be (chances: slim, none) unlikely for Howie--compared to keeping Grace on. (Not to be confused with Kuhner's wife Grace who was on 1060 or 1260 or was it even RKO, briefly).
Kuhner may be getting year-by-year renewals from iHR and he's involved with the whole Bill Kelly Company Sat. morning deal. Somehow he stays on and does have SOME followers. Indeed the other stations carry Polito--and he's on 1200 here.
iHeart New England talkers--Boston WRKO, WXKS, [WBZ part time]; Cape Cod WXTK..Springfield WHYN, Worc WTAG

in NH WGIR Manchester, WQSO on seacoast (Howie's Manch. station is WFEA, different owner)

In CT WPOP Hartford, WELI New Haven
And WHJJ Prov RI
None in VT or ME

I vaguely seem to recall several years ago Howie used to go on Kuhner's show about 9:45 to announce what he was going to talk about that afternoon.

He spent most of the time promoting his books and IIRC he got "paid" to do the segment. I remember Cooksey telling him to check his mailbox for tickets. Howie doesn't do ANYTHING for free, he gets paid in some way, shape, or form, be it tickets, food, free products, etc.

Kuhner is a drama queen and not worth my time. Haven't listened for years.

And then there's the Howie clone that's on at noon time, another waste of air time.

Polito on Talk1200 isn't quite as big a drama queen as GOONER, but he's getting there. He promotes his show with "I guarantee you haven't had this much fun" yeah, not even close. I listen to his disaster for about 10 minutes a day and that's to get the weather report from Tom Bevacqua aka Tommy B.

The stray cats that I feed are more entertaining than these people! :D :D :D :D

He gets paid in free advertisement of his show, his profile, his books and his causes.

I think she's pretty good and has a good grasp of the political world.

As far as being a "clone", she's a good compliment to his show that is offered to stations. If you take the Howie Carr show, you're probably open to taking her show as well.

I don't "take" the howie carr show, nor do I "take" GOONER or the clone at noon. You can keep all three of them. You have your opinion, I have mine.

Not everything is about you. ;-)

Stations (affiliates) “take” the show. If a station takes Howie Carr at 3pm…they are probably open to taking the Noon show as it appeals to the same Audience

SMH, so because I have a different opinion, you think I'm making it about me??? SMH. I could say the same to you. Not everything is about you ;-). Like I said "I don't "take" the howie carr show, nor do I "take" GOONER or the clone at noon. You can keep all three of them. You have your opinion, I have mine." End of story.

No, it's not about having different opinions, it's your misunderstanding the idea of an affiliate "taking" a show.
And yours is a valid point. If a station's mood or tone is set by one show it likes and can monetize, they may be more receptive to other shows that fit that mood and can be sold to the same clients that already accept one show.

We are talking about broadcast management here, not audience reaction.
