Boston radio ratings October 2020

FWIW, iHeartMedia could in theory, simulcast one of their AM's, WBZ on election night to help with the listenership. I ln all likelihood, that is not going to happen.

But if major Boston Newspaper, and stick neck out to endorse... then as old saying that keeps repeating "anything is possible!"

Care to try this again? Not sure what you're trying to say here.

An FM simulcast on election night--indeed may not happen but I do remember in 2013 with the marathon bombings WRKO and WBZ AM were at times simulcast on FM (WEEI-FM, and various CBS FMs).
Neither station has a full power FM or FM-translator to simulcast on but the HD2s of
WZLX and WXKS-FM have them.I don't know the percentage of radio listeners who own an
HD radio, be it in the car or a portable.

You do have some listening via streaming.
In smaller New England markets there are news-talker AMs with FM translators, such as
WTAG, WFEA and WGAN.
As KDKA Pittsburgh celebrates its 100th aniversary they just got an FM translator.
Other big and mid market stations may or may not have translators...NY for example, I don't
know of FM translators for WOR, WABC, WCBS and WINS..who knows.

There are a couple news talk stations on FM
here--WGBH and WBUR-- who probably are still doing well in ratings.
____
WMEX not listed...mostly oldies or greatest hits or whatever you call it, and some talk shows..but Ed Perry doesn't subscribe.
Agreed about age of listeners and a less
desirable demo.We do buy stuff but 25-54 matters
more to them.

My point was regardless of how things look, and no matter just unlikely that something couldn't logically defy rationality, stranger things things have indeed has happened before!

I gathered that from the last part of the sentence, but I'm still trying to figure out the whole bit with "Newspaper, and endorse." CAN endorse, maybe? And endorse WHOM? And which major paper? The only one the city has left that can still call itself major or the shriveled husk of the other?

What is the remainder of The Boston Herald yesterday endorsed Trump over Biden. Clear as mud?

Got it! No surprise there. But the Union Leader up in Manchester backed Joe a few days earlier. Now that was a real surprise, given that paper's history.

Huh? WBZ is the #1 station in Boston. They don't need help with their listenership.

Amen to that!

iHeart seems to have really done something, uh, "magic" with both WRKO and WBZ, given how long either has been this high in 6+.

This is not meant for you, BigA, but I'm really tired of hearing from others that both stations only have listeners 55+, as if we didn't matter.

It's not that we geezers don't matter, we're just a drag to any station trying to increase advertising revenue. It would be nice if ad buying decisions were based on nothing but 6+, but they're not.

This gets back to the cost-cutting they did there earlier last year. Stations operate on a budget. The CBS budget was higher because they shared some staff with TV. iHeart needed to get that budget in line. Plus the revenue isn't going to be as strong as WZLX or some of their music stations. But hopefully they're recognizing some value with the web site, and sharing staff with TT&N.

We don't know who or where but twitter is buzzing about a potential "unthinkable format change" tomorrow with a company CEO landing in that market....may not be this one...but who knows. (Via @radioinsight tweet
Scott Fybush adds if this is true he'll get the details up at Northeast Radio Watch.

Could be though vague reference here. Some wonder if it's in Seattle or Detroit or even NY but EEI has been taking its lumps lately

WEEI is in far better shape than KROQ in LA.

But we could all be wrong, and it's Cumulus looking to fix one of its underperformers.

Funny how so much of the speculation is about Entercom. They have so many problem areas. A big one in B-town. But also in LA.

The only unthinkable thing that could happen here IMHO is either they do indeed blow up WEEI. Much more likely, if things were to happen in Boston. I'd say that it could be much more likely that A) WEEI-FM goes into full syndication. B) They swap WEEI-FM to another frequency, with WBGB being the most likely move, with 93.7. C) Last, but certainly not least, Entercom simulcasts WEEI on one of their better performing stations (WWBX or WMJX). While if the last case scenario happens, it could be the end of Mix, however the only thing in my mind that would truly be shocking is if they WMJX out instead.

With all that said, in L.A. KROQ is way much more likely to be dumped, but especially with their lack luster ratings, that only remind me of the former WBCN.

P.S. let's not rule out a frequency move for WEEI-FM with 93.7 flipping to all Christmas until they can figure out something better to do also.
