Boston radio ratings: who’s hot and who’s not (Demo)

And you must be David Duke .

And anyone who disagrees with you is a racist, right?

I'd be careful about calling others names, the only one who keeps brining up race and color is you.

Only if you think that way , and If so , Who Care's ! I dont get paid to please you ( or anybody on this board ). Boston has to many sloppy rock stations and it shows on the ratings . I bet If WHJY in Provindence had a good signal in Boston , All these Boston sloppy Rock stations , most likely cant get .5 rating ( .5 Maybe a good book for WFNX in the Future ). Boston need a Urban , Urban A/C, Smooth Jazz or a Great CHR/Pop station, like 96.3 The Rose ( Cape Cod ), or Fun 107 Fairheaven,New Bedford MA . Kiss and Jamn are not all that great , But they gettin' Huge numbers by Default.

Hey, Join the club! I got called a racist for making a generalization of WJMNs target audience I guess it's ok if other people do it.

Anyone here old enough to remember playing vinyl records?

Once in a while they would "skip"....and repeat the same things over and over again.

Oh yeah, those were the days! Now how did 'BCN do in this book? I do not recall see them get high ratings. Hmmm, how about "Soul 104" anyone?

WBCN will do sports long before urban for one simple reason: parent CBS Radio has the contract for BOTH the Patriots AND the Bruins! Its talk segments in both drive times are the only half decent rated slots, and 'BCN even loses to the fading Howie Carr (if Howie was on a real - i.e. FM - radio station, his ratings would've been better IMHO). It's not as though as 'BCN's music will disappear, especially since 'ZLX and Mix already play most of it in-family, plus there's 'AAF, 'FNX, 'BOS, and to varying degrees 'ROR, Mike (it plays Blur's "Song 2" an obnoxious lot of times), River and Kiss.

Mix will flip to a more-rhymically mainstream CHR and target both Jam'n and Kiss before straight ahead urban!

Hey Rapking, I don't disagree with any of your opinions. However, I wish that you would do me a favor. Please stop putting spaces before commas and periods. It drives me crazy.

Thanks.

It seems to me that Opie and Anthony are starting to gain some traction, and I know from talking to an insider than there is no way 'BCN is giving up on T and R any time soon, I suppose you could still have both of those shows on a "sports talk" station but I think they fit better on a rock station.

Um, Mix 98-5 and WBCN do not share all that much music and neither does WZLX also for that matter. Anyway, I thought about your post when I first read it and I initially agreed with it, however as I was thinking about it during the day it occurred to me that Mix's audience and a an R&B station really wouldn't have all that much overlap at all. OK, maybe WBCN would go sports before going R&B, but then again, CBS also owns WBZ and all of that programming could simply be shifted to there as well.

96.3 is a fantastic station. I wish I could get it on the car radio north of exit 12 on Route 3.

I know this thread is about Boston ratings, but another great Cape/Islands station is 92.7 WMVY. You can hear it online at mvyradio.com .

"A fantastic station???"

I say mediocre at best. Nothing really makes it stand out to me over any other small/medium market CHR. Not bad, just not great.

Yes, a fantastic station.

I like it better than JAMN or KISS, and I like those two stations quite a bit.

I don't find any small-market drop off. It sounds crisp and tight.

It's the best option on the Cape for that format.

Fun 107 is by no means innovative, but I will credit the station with playing more dance music than most CHR stations. Certainly more than Kiss 108.

Just one thing about Pats shifting to 'BZ; the Krafts will want a 3 hour pre-game show plus a 2 hour post-game show (as is on 'BCN), and 'BZ will NEVER get away from the news (especially the "traffic on the 3s") for any pre-game. Before the B's games, 'BZ does news right until the point that the puck is about to drop. With 'BCN (potentially, of course) broadcasting the B's games, there would be a pre-game show at 6:30 (or half an hour before the game).

Of course if the PPMs do take off and the rock stations' results are more like Houston and Philly, don't be shocked if 'BCN's ratings are just below Jam'n's, and 'ZLX and Magic would post bigger numbers than they do now!
