No idea where he went, but there are new music directors there so he's gone from that position too.

Several shows(and stations) I miss:

A Spanish show called "La Voz Continental" on WUNR with Tony Jay, and an Italian show on that same station "Enrico e Carla." Buona Scouto!

Ah, Tony Jay! That brings back memories. He was actually Italian, from a backwater where the local dialect bore only a vague resemblance to standard Italian.

Do you remember the Gino and Gilda Show? Gino Merluzzi and his sister Gilda were on WUNR every weekday morning, and used to sign off with "Whistle While You Work" in Italian. Gino was an old ex-fascist who used to used to argue about Mussolini with engineer Tony Olmedi, a U.S. World War II veteran, off the air.

A personal favorite of mine was Streetcorner Symphony with Bruce "Stompin' Zemo" Werner, on WHRB.

The week after he died, I heard the announcer on WUNR say, "Owing to the death of its host, the Ken Mayer show will not be heard."

Ken's last show, recorded just before his death, never aired. The tapes were in a desk drawer in my office when I left WUNR/WBOS in December 1983; by the time I came back to do some contract work three years later, they had disappeared.

Patrick moved across the country to the Northwest for a new job opportunity in his *real-life* career (not radio).

WMBR is all-volunteer (even management positions such as MD, PD, GM, etc...). Sometime it's necessary for *real-life* careers to take priority in one's life!

Joe & Andy Mornings on the original WROR
Blanche, Rocky, and Miss Melon on Matty in the Morning
Any of the original Morning Zoo shows before JR on WZOU

Just about the entire staff at WZOU from the 90's, especially Kid Valentine. Last I knew he was at KIIS in Los Angeles.

Agree 110%. What about Marc "Marc with a C, Clark with no E" Clark? What's he up to nowadays?

WBCN - The Big Mattress, Mark Parenteau, Ken Shelton, Nik Carter, many many more
WFNX - Morning Guy Tai, Storm Zbel, "X-Nite Live" w/Mike Gioscia
"Hot 97.7" WBOT - Reggie Beas, DJ Chubby Chub
WAAF - The original Opie & Anthony show, Rocko in the afternoons/nights, "The O-Zone" with John Osterlind (remember the "midget sighting of the day?")
"Z-94" WZOU - JR in the morning
"Rock 101" WGIR - "Whiplash" Heavy Metal Show

That's all I can think of for now..

I think I forgot to mention "Nasty Habits" on WERS with Mike Jones. Metal show in the mid-80s. It continued after Mike left but he was the best host by far. "The show that rocks Boston the hardest and the best." He was probably the first DJ to play Metallica in Boston.

Am I right that, until now, nobody in this thread has mentioned the late Bud Ballou? He certainly deserves a mention (more than one mention, actually)! One of the most talented and engaging top-40 jocks ever to work in this market. For sure, he was at WMEX and I think that, shortly before his death, he moved to WVBF.

OH! Charlie Van Dyke on 68 RKO with his supporting cast of traffic & weather guys that never missed a beat with his jokes and jabs.
Charlie's weather guy,Jordan Rich was great with Charlie. They really clicked.Did Jordan work in radio before that?

Here's one that I suspect is remembered ONLY by me (and nobody else--anywhere--except _possibly_ the guy who hosted the show, and who, by now, may no longer even remember that he did it): Jonathan Schwartz's evening program in the early '60s on WNAC AM 680. Jonathan went on to fame at WNEW (AM) in New York, where he became the de-facto curator of Frank Sinatra material. I think he also hosted the station's legendary "Make-Believe Ballroom" for a while. However, during his couple of years in Boston, early in his career, he displayed a tremendous knowledge of and sensitivity for what a lot of people refer to as The Great American Songbook. (Remember, Jonathan is the son of composer Arthur Schwartz.) He also proved himself to be a raconteur par excellence. Does anyone know whether Jonathan's weekend program at public radio WNYC (AM) 820 in New York City is still on the air?

Jonathan's show airs on WNYC-FM-93.9 New York on Saturdays & Sundays from 12 Noon-4pm ET. The Sunday show is live; I believe that the Saturday show is a compilation of his satellite radio shows (see below). http://www.wnyc.org/shows/schwartz

I can't remember which one of the two weekend shows does not stream on WNYC.org - whichever one it is, it's an exclusive show on SiriusXM Radio. Jonathan appears on Sirius Channel 75 & XM Channel 73 ("Siriusly Sinatra") Mon.-Sat. from Noon-3pm & Sun. from Noon-4pm. http://www.sirius.com/siriuslysinatra & http://www.xmradio.com/siriuslysinatra

HELL YEAH. "Top 5 at 1:05(am)". the top five death metal songs of the week. thats what got me into death metal in 93/94.

I miss WPLM's "Hall of Music" broadcast with Steve Coleman and Rick Kiley. I also miss Gary Collard, John Dyer & Jane Day. They really made the station the best on the South Shore. Also, I miss their all day and all night Irish music celebration on St. Patrick's Day!
